Mr Jonathon Lum - Surrey Hills, Melbourne
UPDATE 26/3/12: I am no longer available for private tuition and my group sessions
are currently full. If you would like to be added to the waiting list, please read the
information below and contact me by email.
I'm Jonathon and I completed Year 12 in 2008 at Balwyn High School, graduating
with an ENTER of 99.95.
Over the last four years, I have specialised in tutoring VCE English Language, the
content of which I remain engaged in through my study of Linguistics at Monash
University. I have tutored students both individually and in groups of various sizes,
and also conduct end-of-year revision lectures for Connect Education (see
www.connecteducation.com.au for further details).
In 2012 I will be studying Honours in Linguistics, and so will have limited
availability for tutoring. To accommodate for more students, I will mainly be
conducting group sessions. In my experience, group sessions are often better
value, and facilitate greater discussion than a private session. Of course, I realise
that private sessions can be more suitable for some things, and so will aim to
reserve some extra time slots each week for those students who wish to have
occasional one-on-one tuition in addition to the group sessions. Unfortunately,
however, I will be unable to offer regular private tutoring sessions
during 2012.
All sessions will take place on Sundays at the Balwyn Community
Centre, 412 Whitehorse Rd, Surrey Hills 3127. This is a great location, along the
109 tram line and very close to both Balwyn and Box Hill. Suburbs like Doncaster,
Glen Waverley, Hawthorn and Burwood are all within a 15-20 minute
drive.
To express your interest, please contact me at
lum.jonathon@gmail.com. In your email, please indicate the following (it
will help me place you in an appropriate group):
- Your name and contact details
- Whether you are studying Units 1 & 2 or Units 3 & 4 English
Language in 2012
- Your school
- Your average grades in English or English Language in 2011
- Your target Study Score
- Any questions or concerns you have
Please note: I do not teach mainstream English or ESL, but only VCE
English Language (a different subject). I am listed as an English tutor only
because Tutorfinder has no separate category for English Language tutors. I will
not respond to requests for English or ESL.
Experience I have tutored younger students consistently for the last nine years. More recently I have
specialised in teaching English Language. I have worked with struggling students as well as
more accomplished ones, and aim to build confidence as well as skills. Many of my students
have achieved Study Scores of 40 or above.
