Mr Julian James - Inner West and Eastern suburbs, Sydney
I lectured International Economics, Trade, and International Finance at university level over the last 2 years. I am also familiar with the HSC syllabus for maths, 2U/3U/4U. I have experience tutoring under/postgraduate students from various Australian universities, eg. University of Sydney, UNSW, UTS, Charles Sturt University, UNE, Macquarie.
I am a passionate learner myself and I have developed a good sense for the potential problems students encounter in their respective fields of study. Apart from the difficulties in the content it is often the pressure to perform well combined with a low self-assessment of the students themselves that result in poor motivation and lack of success. My approach is therefore to make the subject of study accessible&fun, motivate the student and help to overcome potential mental blocks. It works!
To be succesful under time constraints structuring the tutoring lessons is very important:
+ Assessment of student's skill level and requirements
+ Setting of realistic goals withing the time frame
+ Helping to achieve goals in time
+ Frequent check-ins re: former content (as we are all forgetful)
+ Final review (goals achieved, student abilities + confidence increased)
