I presently tutor students in VCE ENGLISH and VCE LITERATURE from various Melbourne and regional schools, as well as those students studying via Distance Education.

As a highly qualified and experienced tutor, I have a comprehensive understanding of the present VCE English and Literature courses and their requirements, as implemented last year in the new VCAA 3/4 study designs.

By maintaining a detailed knowledge of the VCE literary texts, including secondary support materials produced by VATE (Victorian Association of Teachers of English), I am able to engage students in ways that radically improve their understanding and extend their written work.

My graduate study in the humanities was completed at Harvard and Columbia Universities. I have a PhD in English Literature and broad experience teaching writing and literature to students of all ages and levels of expertise, in both Australia and the US.

My past VCE English and Literature students have consistently gained impressive study score results, both exceeding initial personal expectations and helping to facilitate ATAR scores for entrance into their preferred university courses.

My approach to year 12 English studies aims not only to take into account present difficulties, but also to build on each student's academic and personal strengths, increasing confidence as well as skill over the course of the year.

The weekly private tutoring I provide - either in-person or online (via Skype*) - helps VCE students to read and understand the various literary and other texts under study, assisting them to find their own voice in the analytic, persuasive, literary and creative writing required.

The organisation of private lessons is individualised, based directly on each student's specific needs, following the VCE class curriculum as laid out by the school, SAC due dates, practice, official trial and final exams.

* Re online tutoring via Skype: This suits not only students who live in regional areas and may not have access to specialist tutors, but also students who do not have the time to travel to a library location on weekends or after school. Online tuition yields the same positive outcomes as face-to-face tuition. The email exchange of practice essays and comments works in exactly the same way for online and in-person tutoring sessions.

Please inquire for a Year 12 tutoring place in 2019.

Please note, I do not presently have any vacancies for after school or weekend tutoring in 2018, but I do have VACANCIES DURING SCHOOL HOURS (and up to a 3.30pm start time) for tutoring via Skype (Year 12 English only).

All inquiries welcome and all emails answered promptly.

"Dr Saunders, or Kristyn as she prefers has been a fantastic inspiration to work with this year as I completed year 12. This year Kristyn has helped me find my way in improving my expression in my English and Literature subjects. This fundamentally was aimed at helping me communicate my ideas in a more sophisticated manner in order to achieve high SAC marks and a good exam result. Throughout the year my teachers at school were more impressed and interested in my work and my marks improved. Kristyn's approach to helping her students works best when a student works hard and provides practice pieces for review on a regular basis. Without Kristyn's interest, skills, and knowledge in literature, my marks and my interest in literary arts would not have been as strong as what they are. I really enjoyed working with Kristyn this year, not only for the benefit of improving my marks, but also for the care, concern, and moral support she has offered during my year 12 experience."
