Miss Lucy Thomson - Eagle Junction, Brisbane
Im a 29yr old student, currently in my 3rd year of my Bachelor of Education(Early Childhood)Degree.
I have recently completed my second 4 week teaching prac as part of my degree. I had a prep class and thoroughly enjoyed it, I enjoy the rewarding experience of teaching. Last year I had a year one/two composite class, and again found it a rewarding experience, and I learnt to vary my styles of teaching when one way isn't successful, both of my teaching pracs have taught me that this
I therefore am very flexible in my approach to tutoring, and having grown up with lots of younger cousins, am very friendly, nurturing and understanding. I remember the teachers I had when I was younger and remind myself why I liked them so much.
I think approachability is an important factor. Children need to feel comfortable asking a teacher/tutor to re -explain something, communication is important!
I am available to tutor young children up to age 10 in all subject areas, particularly english and spelling.
I am available Saturdays from 8:30am - please call to arrange a time
Experience For the past two and a half years I have been a volunteer at the Pyjama Foundation, where I have been tutoring a young girl, now aged 8 with her school work, including her reading. While this has been voluntary work, it has still been enjoyable, and very rewarding watching her reading and grammar improve so much and hearing her tell me every week about the reading level she is currently on.
Qualifications -Currently studying a bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) at QUT, currently in 3rd year, have completed two field experiences(Year one/two class at Wooloowin State School for 4 weeks in 2010, and a prep class at Virginia State School in May/June 2011)
-Have been a volunteer for the Pyjama Foundation since August 2008
