Mr Murray Gillin - Thornbury, CBD, Melbourne
Chemistry is my passion in life, I'm currently completing my honours degree in
synthetic organic chemistry, and am offering my services as an experienced and
knowledgeable tutor. I have a strong grasp of the VCE syllabus (as I went through
the same syllabus all those years ago), and what is
required from students. My knowledge of chemistry extends further then the
requirements of VCE, and can teach tertiary level chemistry to a high standard.
I believe many schools and tutors for that matter neglect and focus purely on
exams, which from what I've observed backfires.
Revision is key to my teaching style, and I believe students get a lot out of practice
questions, which I source from various publications, as well as questions I write
myself to address particular needs of students. Practice with a variety of
questions exposes the true patterns in chemistry, and really solidifies basic
concepts which are so often overlooked in times of stress.
I can also help in the construction of a study timetable if desired by students,
maximise organisation, maximise your study efficiency.
Textbooks can only take a student so far, I have a working knowledge of
chemistry given my studies in Pharmaceutical Science (Monash), majoring in
medicinal chemistry. I have a strong background in analytical, organic
and physical chemistries. I enjoy teaching, and hope to impart onto students the
same appreciation and joy of chemistry that I have.
Available during the week in the evenings 5-9 PM. I teach mostly at the Northcote
Library, which is accessible via public transport. Available also for weekend
sessions from 10AM. Also available to teach at State Library, opposite Melbourne
Central, this varies on day and times will need to be discussed.
I can competently teach tertiary level chemistry, my specialist area is organic
chemistry, as well as associated spectroscopic techniques (ID, 2D NMR, IR, MS).
Also able to teach Saxophone (alto or tenor), an appropriate location should be
discussed for these lessons, and are held on weekends.
Group lessons available, maximum of three students, $25 an hour per student.
