Ms Sophie Brown - Glen Waverley, Melbourne
Specialised English tuition that can give your child’s confidence a boost!
I teach foundation literacy skills and secondary English curriculum in a fun and
relaxed environment, with comprehensive instruction tailored to fit each individual
child.
MY BACKGROUND:
In 2010 I completed a Bachelor of Secondary Education in English and Music
at Griffith University in Queensland, graduating with first class honours. I am
currently completing a Master of Speech Pathology at University of Melbourne. I
have been teaching English literacy for 5 years, both privately and at a high-profile
tuition centre. As part of my undergraduate qualification, I also completed a
voluntary 10-week internship teaching English at a public High School in
Queensland in addition to my required practical experience. I taught a number of
students in the Even Start program for low NAPLAN results in 2008/09, and have
experience in preparing for this testing. In my current study I have also completed
a speech pathology placement in the Department of Education in Melbourne.
I have taught the full range of levels from Kindy and Prep (just learning the alphabet
and beginning phonics) to senior English and am able to help with all areas such as
spelling, reading, writing and comprehension. I have experience working with
specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, auditory processing disorder, autism
spectrum disorders, and intellectual impairment.
APPROACH:
I aim to make English and literacy enjoyable, with an emphasis on achievable goals
and language immersion. I am able to focus on general literacy
development or school-based assistance as required. I am able to teach from my
home in Glen Waverley or your home, depending on location and ease of access.
