Private lessons allow me to fill in the information gaps that a student is experiencing. I am also a qualified translator (10 languages) and occasional interpreter (4 languages) so I have had a lot of my own information gaps!
I teach all levels and ages: I often just teach HOW to learn another languages. But I specialise in changing a student's pronunciation: I know of many practical ways to do this. I also teach interpreting and translating skills, for any language combination, and can help you prepare for a) classroom exams, b) professional requirements or c) recreational
Am available to teach at most times, including weekends, and am registered with the ACT Working with Vulnerable People.
Sometimes a student lives interstate or overseas, but this is no barrier. Using emails and Skype we can work together without needing to travel.
Something I have introduced is just having ONE LESSON. It's surprising how many problems can be fixed by just seeing you once...
Apart from schoolchildren (in private and government schools, at both primary and
secondary levels) I have taught individual members of staff at the French Embassy,
defence cadets at the Australian Defence Force Academy, and diplomats learning a
language pre-posting (through the Department of Foreign Affairs).
In 2012, 2014 and 2016 I taught in the joint Canberra Multicultural Forum
Committee/Canberra Institute of Technology Solutions program which teaches interpreting
skills for community languages.
From time to time friends of friends have invited me to stay the weekend so I can
give them an immersion language experience: Italian and French are the most popular, of
I know you can see a teacher who charges less: but I have a university degree in teaching
and also became a professional translator and interpreter. I do not know of other teachers
who are using the languages they teach, do you?
I focus on the PRACTICAL, REALISTIC ways to learn a language, and have had many years
to notice what works and what is time-wasting and frustrating.
