Sydney - Tutor in Clarinet, Music Theory, Spanish |
|
Ms Sarah Porwoll - Cherrybrook, Sydney
I am a qualified tutor of clarinet, music theory, and Spanish - all at beginning,
intermediate, and advanced levels. I enjoy teaching in one-on-one and small group settings because I believe that both the student(s) and the tutor take so much more from that type of experience than from a large group session. In individual and small group sessions, we can truly tailor the lessons to the students' needs, strengths, and
weaknesses, and thus make progress at a faster pace. I love watching my
students grow and succeed in whatever subject they happen to be studying.
Preparation for AMEB exams offered for both clarinet & music theory.
As a performer, I am currently playing Eb clarinet with the Sydney Wind Symphony. I am also a freelance clarinetist, playing for various shows & operas around Sydney, as well as with the New South Wales Police Band on a regular basis.
Experience Clarinet:
I have been a private clarinet tutor since 2002, and have had over 60 regular students,
as well as several casual tuition students. Besides running my own self-
employed private studio, I was employed by the Wausau, Wisconain (USA) School
District to tutor clarinet students from their two main high schools. I have taught
students from beginning levels all the way through university level - one of my
advanced students was admitted as a clarinet major at the University of
Wisconsin - Stevens Point last year.
Currently, I teach from my home studio, as well as at Mount Saint Benedict College and Arden Primary School.
Music Theory:
While studying for my own Bachelor of Music Degree (with an emphasis in clarinet
performance), I was a volunteer music theory tutor for 2 1/2 years. Each week I
would do individual and small group tutoring to help younger students understand
the topics they were learning in their university music theory courses. I was also
very involved in the composition program; my first work for wind ensemble was
premiered by the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point Concert Band in early
2008.
Spanish:
While studying for my Spanish degree, I tutored several lower-level Spanish
students in grammar and conversation. I also volunteered proofreading and
editing essays they wrote for their university Spanish courses.
Currently, I tutor several Spanish students from my home office.
