Canberra Tutor in Creative Writing, English
, ESL, German, Piano, Reading, Teacher, Visual Arts
I have about 8 years of teaching experience as a classroom teacher and relief teacher in ACT schools. I'd like to offer one-on-one or small group lessons (2-3 students) for English or ESL.
In teaching English/literacy I use the Scaffolding Literacy approach (for half the lesson) as detailed in the book "Scaffolding Literacy: An integrated and sequential approach to teaching reading, spelling and writing" by Beverly Axfords, Pam Harders and Fay Wise; using quality texts with rich language, no "readers" in sight, only my aim of helping children in their literacy journey and to enjoy reading and writing! The second half of the lessons would be more creative (see below).
- Creative Writing - Primary
- English - Primary
- ESL - Primary
- German - Introduction
- Piano - Introduction, Intermediate
- Reading - Primary
- Teacher - General
- Visual Arts - Introduction, Intermediate
I enjoy teaching as I love seeing the spark of learning so inherent in children come to life or be reignited, as oftentimes, school can unwittingly dim their natural spark.
I would like to teach children aged 5-14 (school or homeschooled kids) as well as adults wanting extra tuition.
I'm available on Mon. 10:30 - 1:30, 4-5pm; Friday 10:30-1:30, 4-5pm or Sat 2:00-4:00.
I would be open to teaching 30min lessons for $25, or small group 30min lessons for $15 per child (max 3). Otherwise my rate is $50 per hour. Materials and resources will be provided when required.
Half of my lesson would be following the Scaffolding Literacy approach, and the other half would be given over to a more creative and free approach incorporating songs, drama, and creative writing.
