I love to encourage collaborative learning and interdisciplinary techniques to inspire my students to think big. I believe that students can set themselves up for success by fostering their natural creativity and individual talents, and that the Humanities form a unified field of knowledge that is all too often segmented. In saying this, I have successfully taught students who went on to achieve exceptional results in standardized tests and graded essays under the IB, IGCSE, SAT, AP, VCE and TOEFL curriculums, with 9 of 12 students acheaving a 6 or higher in my initial year of IGCSE instruction.

Experience

My name is Adam Narnst, I am a highly experienced 42 year old Australian writer and teacher. I have recently completed a contract with a VCE Preparation school in Melbourne and previously I was teaching, travelling and volunteering in Asia. I have taught for over 15 years and my stories and essays have been published nationally and internationally in first class publications.

After teaching composition and creative writing for a number of years at Griffith and Bond Universities I moved to China. While in Shanghai, I developed from a part-time university teacher to a full-time instructor of bilingual students some of whom have gone on to elite universities around the world, most recently, New York University, University College London and Sydney University, while others have overcome great hurdles simply to be able to express themselves clearly in a second language.

My initial reason for moving to China was to work part time as I began my PhD and while training martial arts for professional MMA bouts (yes, googleable). Years later I still train casually and the final draft of my PhD is nearing completion, but my priorities have shifted and what I really enjoy is getting great writing out of my students, and myself.

In Melbourne I have mostly been preparing high school students for Literary Analysis, Creative Response and Argument analysis exams on the VCE, but have also been writing and implementing comprehensive courses for ESL students aged 6-12, and was recently employed to grade Sociology and Creative Writing students for Griffith University.
