Hello, my name is Felipe. Until recently I was working as a professional researcher but I decided to follow my dreams and study medicine. I hope I can help you achieve your goals too. I'm am a physics tutor with over 12 years of experience tutoring and mentoring. I specialise in GAMSAT physics section tutoring, which I have been doing for the last two years.
Each person has his/her own style of learning. A particular topic can be explained in many different ways, each one may suit one person more than another. What I love about tutoring is the opportunity to find the approach most suitable for each individual student. This is truly creative work as I help as students discover their own learning style -- for example, by helping students come up with their own explanations for physics' concepts.
I developed my teaching philosophy by observing that many students struggle with physics because they become too focused on formulas. So, I seek to give students a solid conceptual understanding of physics and then help then to translate this understanding into mathematical language, narratives, and illustrative examples that make sense to them. I like to use interactive computer simulations -- including software that I developed myself -- to help students gain an intuitive knowledge of physical phenomena.
The end result is that students retain more information and become more confident because they a) understand the concepts behind the maths and b) discovered by themselves the answers to their questions.
I tutored secondary and tertiary physics both privately and at the University of Auckland from 2004 to 2007. Between 2007 and 2015, I worked at Risk Frontiers as a professional researcher and mentored and supervised postgraduate students and junior staff. I commenced my studies in medicine at UWA in 2016 and was employed by GradReady to tutor physics to students preparing for the GAMSAT.
I got my BSc and MSc in physics in Brazil at the Rio de Janeiro State University. I got a PhD in physics from the University of Auckland in the field of quantum optics in 2007. From 2007 to 2015 I worked as a researcher at Risk Frontiers, an R&D company linked to Macquarie University. During that time, I took authored and co-authored several publications (both peer-reviewed and popular), supervised students achieved the position of Deputy Director.
