**2018 SACE Results:
Our graduates of 2018 have reinforced Golden Key’s tradition of academic success. Special mention goes to Shine Wang who achieved the highest ATAR score of 99.95; 14 Golden Key students gained an ATAR of 97 or above; 5 of them achieved 99+ and 22 students received a perfect score 20/20 in a SACE or 7 in an IB subject. In particular, congratulations to Lizzy Lin who achieved four A+ grades with Merit Awards for SACE and our IB graduate Steven Zhang who achieved the perfect score of 7 in five IB subjects. Golden Key Education is a professional tuition organisation which specializes in tutoring in SACE, VCE, IB, UMAT, Primary and Middle School grade curricula, as well as Scholarships. With locations in both Adelaide and Melbourne, we aim to help students' meet their unique educational needs. Our team is comprised of highly experienced Australian registered teachers, SACE moderators, university graduates with doctorates in mathematics and science, and high SACE ATAR achievers. Within our classes, we help students engage with curricula through a variety of techniques, such as detailed explanations of content, summarising key learning points, assisting with and assigning homework, holding after-class Q&As, giving students personalised progress feedback, chapter testing and so on.
Golden Key Education is designed to empower students. Our Group Class sessions are typically held weekly for approximately 60-90 minutes per subject. These small classes (maximum 6 students for SACE subjects) aim to consolidate each students' understanding of key knowledge and concepts they will learn from school. In addition, they also seek to expose students to learning content normally taught in later years so that they can receive and maintain a head start over their peers.
In order to accurately determine the needs of a student, all enrolled students are required to undergo an initial assessment, the result of which is used to assign students to a class corresponding to their relative foundational knowledge. In this way, we are able to provide classes for both the student who seeks to catch up on their schoolwork, to those that hunger for a greater challenge. However, assigned classes are never final, and if we feel that a student is outperforming their current level, we will reassign the student into a more advanced class. We will also ensure that all students of the same group have similar learning progress at their schools.
Homework and other practice materials are also provided each week to complement the theoretical component taught in class. Feedback on students' progress will also be routinely given so as to help students improve on a weekly basis. All the students enrolled in our Group Class program are also expected to sit spontaneous and/or premeditated tests and exams on a regular basis.
Our private tuition program is a personalised, highly productive, and academically rewarding way for students to learn and study. Through this program, students will receive valuable study advice from our registered school teachers and be provided with the same learning formula that helped many of our tutors achieve their success in the SACE exams. Students will be coached, motivated, supported and offered personalised attention and instruction throughout.
During the course of every session, students will receive detailed and interactive instruction that strengthens, consolidates and extends on required concepts learnt in schools and given substantial notes that include step-by-step instructions, fully worked examples, and take-home practice questions. The questions are designed to reinforce taught concepts and become progressively more difficult as students master the more challenging aspects of their subject.
The Year 5 and 6 Mathematics and Science accelerated program is designed based on the requirement of ACARA and ACER scholarship, which attempts to develop students’ capabilities in both mathematical and scientific abilities. By the end of the year, for the mathematics component, students will be able to recognize properties of prime, composite, square and triangular numbers, solving problems of four operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages as different representations of the same number. Students perform problems solving involving addition and subtraction of related fractions, powers of 10 and multiplication of decimals. Students use fractions, decimals and percentages and their equivalences to express one quantity as a fraction of another. Students solving simple linear equations and evaluate algebraic expressions after numerical substitution. They assign ordered pairs to given points on the Cartesian plane. Students also able to use formulae to find area and perimeter of regular shapes and calculate volumes of regular solids. Students name the types of angles formed by a transversal crossing parallel line. Students determine the sample space of simple experiments with equally likely outcomes and assign probabilities to those outcomes. They can calculate mean, median and range for data sets. They construct stem-and-leaf and dot plots. They can interpret Venn diagram.
For the science component, the Magic Science series is a course based on scientific experiments and activities relevant to everyday life, with a focus on the study of chemistry, physics and biology as well as their related academic vocabulary and scientific theories. Students are encouraged to design and participate in scientific experiments and discover interesting scientific phenomena and solve problems to fully stimulate the students' interest in scientific exploration and learning. Additionally, students are also taught to summarize experiment results in an accurate and logical manner. The course content also teaches algebraic calculations and report writing skills relevant to scientific learning such as how to logically record findings. By cultivating the students' scientific thinking, we help in laying a solid foundation for students participating in future scientific competitions and endeavors.
The Year 5-6 English Accelerator program emphasises writing skills first as these are the most important for acing the scholarship exams. Reading and analysis skills are also focused on in relation to understanding language techniques, target audience, text purpose, and writing styles. Verbal and aural skills are less emphasised because they have no application in Australian Middle School selective entrance scholarship exams.
The Year 7 and 8 Mathematics and Science accelerated program is designed based on the requirement of ACARA and ACER scholarship, which attempts to develop students’ capabilities in both mathematical and scientific abilities. By the end of the year, for the mathematics component, students will be able to recognize application daily life problems involving rates, ratios and percentages. They can apply index laws for whole numbers, describe rational and irrational numbers. Solving problems involving profit and loss, making connections between expanding and factorizing algebraic expressions. Using linear equations to solving geometry problem involving x and mixture problem. They can use two variables to set a pair of simultaneous equations for problem solving. They are also able to use graphing, substitution and elimination method to solve simultaneous equations. They perform calculations to determine area, perimeter of parallelograms, rhombuses and kites, name the features of circles and calculate areas and circumference of circles. They can use simple trigonometric ratios to find sides of a right-angled triangle. They also understand complementary and dependent events as well as to calculate the probabilities.
The Magic Science series is a course based on scientific experiments and activities relevant to everyday life, with a focus on the study of chemistry, physics and biology. Under the guidance of our experienced tutors, students are encouraged to design and participate in scientific experiments and discover interesting scientific phenomena and solve problems to fully stimulate the students' interest in scientific exploration and learning. Additionally, students are also taught to summarize experiment results in an accurate and logical manner. Magic Science M & M is a science exploration class for students from grades 7-9. The course incorporates the scientific academic vocabulary required by ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority) for grades 7-10 and integrates the vocabulary and scientific concepts into more than 100 carefully selected science activities that are relevant to everyday life.
The Year 7-8 English Accelerator is a Golden Key Education original program based on the regulations of both the Australian Curriculum and the ACER scholarship entrance test requirements. Following the same overall structure as the Year 5-6 English Accelerator, the Year 7-8 English Accelerator program revises and extends on the skills required for achieving in middle school curriculums and selective entrance scholarship exams.
**UCAT-Golden Key Medicine Pathway**
Golden Key’s Medicine Pathway Preparatory Course (MPPC) is an intensive year long program aimed at readying aspiring candidates for their entry into undergraduate medicine. The program is delivered through small class sizes, typically groups of 4 to 5 students, to ensure that each student deserves the close support they need to excel. Unlike existing UCAT preparation products, MPPC encompasses more than just the UCAT exam. The course is delivered across two phases:
1. Phase One: The first phase runs from January to July and is designed to reinforce the candidate’s critical thinking aptitude and logical / analytical problem solving prowess – a skill required for the UCAT and for problem solving in general. The course covers problem solving methodologies and logical reasoning techniques that are widely applicable to problems with deterministic and probabilistic outcomes.
2. Phase Two: The second phase runs from 1 September to 31 December. It is an intensive engagement aimed at equipping candidates with the skills required to effectively navigate the interview process for undergraduate and postgraduate medicine. Our interview coaching is a targeted training regime that seeks to enhance the candidate’s communication skills as well as their ability to improvise and empathise under live conditions.
The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is a two-hour computer-based admissions exam used by the UCAT ANZ Consortium of universities in Australia and New Zealand for their medical, dental and clinical science degree programs. The exam helps universities select applicants with the most appropriate mental abilities, attitudes and professional behaviours required for our next generation of doctors and dentists to be successful in their clinical careers. The exam is used in collaboration with other admissions processes such as interviews and academic qualifications. It is also an opportunity to stand out from other applicants and demonstrate aptitude for a demanding journey of study and practical training.
The UCAT exam consists of five separately timed sub-tests, each containing a number of questions in a multiple-choice format. The range and quality of questions are those deemed by universities as important to professional practice in the fields of medicine, dentistry and clinical sciences. Once started the sub-test cannot be paused for break. Prior to each subtest there is a timed instruction section.

For pre-med candidates, the hurdles are all the more difficult. Besides stellar ATAR and UMAT / GAMSAT results, you will need to pass an intensive entrance interview — poor interview performance will most likely compromise your chances at gaining a placement, irrespective of your academic results.
During the interview stage, the faculty heads will find out how your mind works, who you are as a person and everything else that your academic transcript doesn’t show. Just like a job interview, there will be those who relish the entrance interview, and some who dread it and may even discover they don’t want to be a doctor at all (more on this later).
The panel of interviewers are practitioners and lecturers at prestigious institutions. Throughout their decade-long association with medical school applicants, these seasoned professionals have met all types of applicants: over confident, under confident, teary and emotional, and everything in between.
Even if you are naturally charming and charismatic, resist the temptation to wing your medical school interview. You will be miles ahead if you have already given any serious thought to common interview questions beforehand.
