Experienced English Tutor Sydney (+online teaching to all states)
Sydney tutor in Biology, Creative Writing, English, Essay Writing, French, Medical Interviews
Hi! My name is Isabella and I am currently a 3rd year Medical student at UNSW.
I graduated as Dux of North Sydney Girls High School in 2018 with an ATAR of 99.85 and have been tutoring English to high school students for the past 3 years.
Having recently graduated, I first-hand experienced the struggles of English in high school, especially in Year 11 and 12. Finding related texts, analysis of core texts, creative writing with a stimulus and answering short answer questions can be confusing and difficult. I believe that English Advanced/Standard is, for most people, their most difficult subject although the tremendous amount of time and effort required is often underestimated. However, once you begin to develop analysis skills, engage deeply with texts and fine-tune your creative expression, I believe that English can become a rewarding and enjoyable subject!
I can help you with essays (structuring, thesis, developing ideas) and creative writing (coming up with ideas, incorporating stimulus etc) through helping you with homework and assignments, editing and providing feedback on your work and even brainstorming/discussing ideas together!
While I mainly do home visits and face-to-face teaching, I always provide out-of-lesson support to my students through answering questions by text, marking online and sending feedback+resources through emails.
- COVID-19 - Currently with the COVID-19 crisis and most schools being shut down, it must be a more stressful time than ever to be completing the HSC or any level of high school! Without formal, face-to-face classroom interaction, the work can seem more confusing and students may experience loss of motivation to put in effort.
Therefore, I would like to do my best to support and provide help to students during this difficult period by offering online teaching, support and marking of assignments. Through using Zoom, Skype and other online learning platforms, I can answer any questions, review or pre-learn challenging classwork and ensure that students are maintaining good study habits (even in self-isolation!). I believe that these sessions, either one-on-one or group can help simulate a "classroom" environment and help keep students motivated to study, even for that extra half an hour each day!
Biology - Having achieved a Band 6 in Biology and ranked 2/55 in my cohort, I can teach students crucial concepts and edit assignments (e.g. depth study reports).
French - I ranked 5th in NSW for French Extension and achieved also achieved 96/100 in French Advanced. I can help students practise oral/conversation skills for Advanced and develop strong structures for Extension monologues. I also have a wealth of resources and notes on both including good vocabulary, expressions and Neuilly sa mere film notes/analysis.
Medicine Interviews/consultation: I am currently a studying Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at UNSW and have a comprehensive understanding of the interview process at multiple universities (including interstate) from experience. I can also give advice on what subjects to choose in high school, how to balance out HSC/UCAT/extracurriculars and provide an insight into what studying Medicine is like.
I look forward to hearing from you so don't hesitate to text or call me on 0411535510.
