I am an experienced tutor and am familiar with the WACE syllabuses. I've held a NSW Working with Children Check for many years, and hold a valid WA Working With Children Check.
My teaching experience comes from many years as a university academic, as well as private tutoring. I first stared teaching in 2008 at the University of Wollongong by demonstrating practical science classes in chemistry and biology. Demonstrating is a one-on-one or one-on-group style teaching that takes place as students conduct science experiments. I learned a lot during these early teaching appointments and found I really enjoy the small group teaching dynamic.
As I progressed through my PhD and gained teaching experience, I was asked to present several well received guest lectures to undergraduate and masters students, and since 2016 have worked as a university lecturer and subject coordinator for undergraduate and masters subjects, for which I have received excellent peer and student feedback. These academic roles saw me managing teaching teams and content creation, but I also found time to take part in the one-on-one teaching that makes the work worth the effort. For the past few years I've also coordinated a subject for high school students to experience university over their summer holiday.
I moved to Perth to explore a long time interest of mine that will see me studying the Doctor of Medicine at the University of Western Australia from 2018 to 2021. I'd love the opportunity to continue my teaching work in my new home.
I've also tutored high school (years 9 through 12) in NSW since 2014 and during this time I've helped students who have made the NSW HSC Distinguished Achievers lists ("...the students who achieved a result in the highest band possible [...] for one or more courses"; NSW Education Standards Authority), for the subjects I've tutored them in. I've also helped and motivated troubled students restart their school studies.
I'm used to teaching in various modes and to varying levels of aptitude, and can tailor my lessons to my students needs or wants.
-tutor in the subjects listed on this page,
-can work with an electronic notebook that allows my students and I to share work inside and outside of out lessons,
-can provide printed worksheets,
-can provide homework through my own online learning site,
-can arrange email access with my students outside of our lessons to coordinate content or answer questions,
-can talk to students about motivation and goal setting across a range of student aptitude.
I'm available after 3:30 pm weekdays and will consider booking weekend time slots.
