I am an experienced and enthusiastic Australian trained secondary English teacher, and have just returned home to Australia after working a full time, permanent teaching position as Coordinator of Years 7, 8 and 9 English at a leading private secondary school in West London.
I received an ATAR of 97.1 in 2011 and so I personally understand the rigorous demands of achieving top results in the HSC. After five years of full time university (including a double degree in education/humanities and an Honours degree in English literature from ACU) and now moving into my fifth year of teaching, I can safely say that I have seen my students both in schools, and privately in tutoring sessions, achieve the success they deserve in their school work and their leaving exams. I am also an experienced and qualified external AQA Examiner for GCSE English Literature (HSC equivalent in the UK) and so I am highly confident in the skills needed to analyse a wide range of text types and genres, the construction of different text types, essay writing and creative writing.
While I do emphasise my experience in helping students achieve success in their exam results, my tutoring sessions focus on developing the skills necessary to boost self-confidence in the subject of English which in turn is what creates these excellent results. Confidence in such literacy skills are needed not only for current class assessments and HSC exams, but are carried into University and into a person's life. It is the consolidation of these fundamental literacy skills, which in fact permeate all subjects, that allows students to progress and achieve above and beyond their English targets.
As an experienced and highly qualified secondary English teacher, I have excellent knowledge of differentiating pedagogical approaches to curriculum and instruction to ensure each individual child is tutored in a way that is tailored to their ability level, needs and interests. I worked as the Special Education Needs and Disability Representative for the English Department for the last three years and have experience working with EAL/D students. Therefore, I am willing and ready to take on any student regardless of ability level.
Let me help your child gain the confidence they need, to achieve the marks they truly deserve!
