Hi there, I offer a specialised English tutoring service for students in years 7-12. Over the past eight years, I have taught over 1000 students, whether in a 1:1 context or as a contracted HSC specialist for schools. Since 2017, I have also run the most comprehensive HSC English resource platform in NSW (Ignite HSC), providing practical study guides to thousands of users each year. I am a highly practical and formulaic tutor, who aims to provide a clear structure for whatever task a student is undertaking. Many of my students have achieved 95+ in the English Advanced and Standard courses, and have even placed in the top 20 in NSW. To see my approach to teaching, you can find examples of my style using the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cR_iRblWpB0

Regarding my own studies, after achieving an ATAR of 99.80 in 2013, I proceeded to complete a Combined Bachelors Degree in Economics and Laws at the University of Sydney. By the end of 2020, I will also have completed a Master of Laws.

Currently, I have very limited availability for tutoring, and structure my services based on a student's year group.

For students commencing Year 12 in Term 4, 2020:

I have 3-4 places available for ONLINE English tutoring (using shared Google Docs and FaceTime/Skype). My rate is $100/hr and the minimum duration of each lesson is 1.5 hours. Payment is required prior to the commencement of each session via EFT. To guarantee your place for the term, I also require a commitment for at least 8 weeks in the term (which is to be secured after the first session with an advanced payment for the eighth session).

For students in years 7-8, small group sessions will be available from Term 1, 2021 as follows:

Sunday 9am - 11am, in North Ryde (at an educational conference centre). The sessions will run each Sunday for eight weeks in the term. The hourly rate is $45/hour. The price per term (to be paid before the commencement of each term) is $720. The commencement of the group sessions each term will be subject to a minimum registration of 8 students. The maximum capacity of each group is 15 students. The sessions will be taught by myself, subject only to non-availability on a particular week, in which case an experienced substitute will run the class. I may also be aided by an additional teacher to help review each student's work during the session. Throughout the term, students will learn a variety of skills, including skills in comprehension, essay writing and creative writing. They will be provided with practical exercises each session. My pedagogical philosophy is based on learning through structure, examples and practical application, and it is within this framework that students will be taught. The course content will be closely aligned with the relevant NSW syllabus. To reserve a place or for any further information, please email jonnyboyletutoring@gmail.com.

For students in years 9-10, small group sessions will be available from Term 1, 2021 as follows:

Sunday 11.30am - 1.30pm, in North Ryde (at an educational conference centre). The sessions will run each Sunday for eight weeks in the term. The hourly rate is $50/hour. The price per term (to be paid before the commencement of each term) is $800. The commencement of the group sessions each term will be subject to a minimum registration of 8 students. The maximum capacity of each group is 15 students. The sessions will be taught by myself, subject only to non-availability on a particular week, in which case an experienced substitute will run the class.
