- Ph. D. degree in 2002 by the University of Adelaide
- Postdoctoral Research Fellow at CSIRO and the University of Melbourne for more than six years. - Part-time teaching associate at the University of Melbourne. - Private tutor since 1997 and provide one-to-one, small group tutoring, and online tutoring.
My advantage of my being a tutor is that I have extensive practical experience in the subjects I tutor.
- As a private tutor for maths, physics, chemistry, biology, GAMSAT section 3, UCAT, statistics, GRE, EduTest, ACER, Selective Entry High Schools (SEHS) since 2008.
- As a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Melbourne and CSIRO for more than 6 years.
- As a part-time teaching associate at The University of Melbourne at present and I am a member of Australian Education Union (AEU) and Independent Education Union (IEU).
I gained experiences not only in biology, but also in chemistry, physics and maths as well. With my extensive experience in scientific research, I can explain abstract concepts and theories by using tangible examples, help students to understand the logic developments and intrinsic connections of concepts and theories, which ultimately help students to understand subjects thoroughly.
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
When one prepares a high-stakes test, the major challenge is short of time. I believe that one-to-one tutoring and small group tutoring are the most effective ways to get ready for the test. Not only can test takers choose the topics they need to study and the pace with which they are comfortable, but I can tailor the materials to suit students' background and needs. Learning also need intensive coaching just like learning to play tennis. Lots of skills and theories can be grasped quickly through practices under individual coaching.
EXPERIENCE IN HIGH SCHOOL MATHS AND SCIENCES SUBJECTS
I am familiar with the present VCE study designs (2023-26), IB Diploma Programme curricula (2016), SAT II subject tests for maths, physics, chemistry or biology. I tailor the key theories and skills stipulated by the study designs into tangible pieces and guide students to use these theories and skills in solving the past exam questions. I detail the school-assessed coursework (SAC) or internal assessments into tangible tasks, such as forming hypothesis, rationalising experimental designs, interpreting results and discussing errors and questions. After working with me for a period of time, most of students normally can get A+ in both SAC and the end of year exams. Quite a few of my VCE students were offered places for pursuing Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).
VCE SUBJECTS I TEACHt:
VCE Foundation Mathematics (Unit 1-4), VCE Mathematical Methods (Unit 1-4), VCE General Mathematics (Unit 1 - 4), VCE Specialist Mathematics (1 - 4), VCE Physics (Unit 1-4), VCE Chemistry Unit 1 - 4), VCE Biology (Unit 1-4), VCE Environmental Science (Unit 1-4), VCE Chinese second language (Unit 1-4).
IB SUBJECTS I TEACH:
IB Mathematics AA SL, IB Mathematics AA HL, IB Mathematics AI SL, IB Mathematics AI HL, IB Physics SL, IB Physics HL, IB Chemistry SL, IB Chemistry HL, IB Biology SL, and IB biology HL.
SAT I TEACH:
SAT I: The Reasoning test, SAT II Mathematics Level I & Level II, SAT II Physics, SAT II, Chemistry, and SAT II Biology (E, M).
UNIVERSITY SUBJECTS I TEACH:
Calculus, linear algebra, statistics, general physics, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, and biotechnology.
EXPERIENCE IN UCAT:
I have followed the Undergraduate Medical Admission Test (UMAT/UCAT) since 2008. My expertise in biological research gives me many advantages to develop effective strategies to solve UMAT/UCAT questions, especially Section I and Section III, which test student's ability in scientific reasoning. Students find my strategies very effective, especially in continuing the series, picking the meddle, completing the picture, logical reasoning. Quite a few of my UMAT/UCAT students got an average percentile of 98% in UMAT and got offers for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
EXPERIENCE IN GAMSAT SECTION III.
I have been following GAMSAT since 2007 and have expertise in the topics and theories frequently tested in GAMSAT Section III.
I have prepared GAMSAT Section III preparation materials that are based on the frequently tested concept and theories. With aims to help you to grasp the key concepts and theories in a short period of time. I normally first explain the concepts and theories that are frequently tested, then use the GAMSAT sample questions as examples to show how to solve the questions, finally, show the recounts of the questions tested in the past years. After each lesson, I send notes that cover the contents in the session.
In this way, the GAMSAT takers find my lectures are easy to follow and to grasp. I help GAMSAT takers to link the science concepts and theories with the GAMSAT Section III questions and develop effective strategies and practise skills to solve these questions. GAMSAT participants have greatly improved their scores in GAMSAT Section 3 after working with me for a period of time. One client has been offered a place to pursue MBBS at the University of Sydney in 2012, one was offered a place at Deakin in 2013, quite a few received offers from Deakin and Monash for a MBBS places. A few got offers from medical schools from UK.

EXPERIENCES IN TESTS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS AND SELECTIVE SCHOOLS:
I am familiar with the knowledge and skills tested in Edutest and ACER scholarship tests. Two of my EduTest, scholarships students have been selected to attend The Mac.Robertson Girls' High School in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Many of them got superior levels in their mathematics, numerical reasoning and verbal reasoning sections.
As a statistics tutor in Melbourne, I provide tutoring and consultancy for statistics in biological, medical, psychological and economical areas. I provide help from understanding the complex concepts and theories, designing and analysing statistic data, and interpreting the statistic results from common used statistic programs.
I helped students with RMIT，MATH2199，Probability and Statistics ； La Trobe University，BUS5SBF，Statistics for Business and Finance ；The University of Melbourne, ECON10005，Quantitative Methods 1&2 ；Monash University, ETC1000, Business and economic statistics.
Statistics is a theory of information, with inference making as its objective and widely used in medical, biological, psychological, and economical research and daily work. It is now regarded as a separate field, analogous to physics not as a branch of mathematics but as a theory of information that utilises mathematics heavily.
I have been using statistics in my scientific research work since 1988 and helped many clients and students who learned and used statistics from a wide range background, such as to analyse clinic date, design and analyse the psychological surveys, study quantitative methods used in commerce and economic areas. I have developed a strong expertise in statistics.
I provide tutoring and consultancy for statistics in biological, medical, psychological and economical areas. I provide help from understanding the complex concepts and theories, designing and analysing statistic data, and interpreting the statistic results from common used statistic programs.
EXPERIENCE IN OTHER AREAS:
I also have experience in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), Chinese (Mandarin), and helping students to prepare for standard exams, such as IELTS, GRE, SAT I, SAT II Biology, SAT II Maths, SAT II Chemistry, and SAT II Physics,
We provide a free trial session of 15 minutes to show you how our online tutoring works. When you have the online session, you will like online tutoring. Please do advise the time you prefer and we will try our best to find a suitable session for you.
Since March 2020, our tutoring service has been forced to move from in person to online. However, nearly all students find that our online tutoring is great. This saves a huge amount of time of traveling. The tutoring is in a private environment without any distraction. The tutoring results for online is matching or even better than that in person tutoring.
Zoom (or Skype) is usually used due to their screen sharing feature, which facilitates online tutoring greatly. It would benefit when computer’s cameras are kept on.
A the same time, a web-based whiteboard is used for both student and tutor to write and draw. It would be help that students have an iPad or a touch screen computer. However, this is not a must. After the session, a pdf file will be generated for your future reference.
Thank you so much for your interest in our service. Meeting your needs is our highest priorities. If you need more information, please go to:
