Hey, I’m Matt! I graduated as dux and Vice Captain of St Patrick’s College Ballarat in 2019, with an ATAR of 99.90.
I’m a recent graduate with a Bachelor of Science and Diploma in Music at the University of Melbourne, working towards a Master’s in Architectural Engineering.
I love to sing, compose, make art, play tennis, drink coffee- oh, and I also love maths.
I’ve always had a love for sharing my interests with others; there is nothing more satisfying than helping someone arrive at that “Aha!” moment, when everything clicks into place. That’s why I only tutor subjects that I am passionate about. Since finishing high school, I have tutored dozens of students, both professionally and non-professionally.
If you/your child are in ANY of the following categories…
- Looking for the key insights that will help improve grades
- Looking for VCE exam techniques and study advice - Passionate about the subjects I offer and learning in general
… then I guarantee that my tutoring will be a huge benefit!

Group (2-5 people) - $45-$50/hr per person (the more people, the cheaper!)
Individual subject details are listed below:
MATHS
“A mathematician, like a painter or poet, is a maker of patterns. If his patterns are more permanent than theirs, it is because they are made with ideas.” – G.H. Hardy
I’ve loved maths for my whole life. Although it is often treated by the school system as nothing but sterile, mindless computation, to me it is one of the most beautiful disciplines, combining creative thinking with logical rigour.
In my lessons I’ll share some of my personal discoveries that have helped my grades and cemented my love for the subject, as well as the study routines and techniques that helped me perfect my VCE exams.
Subjects offered:
- Specialist Mathematics - VCE Units 1-4
- Mathematical Methods - VCE Units 1-4
- Maths - Years 7-10
- Enrichment subjects of student’s interest (e.g. number theory, geometry, combinatorics etc)
PHYSICS
To succeed in VCE Physics, the most important thing is to have a strong understanding of the core concepts and how they relate to each other. This is what helped minimise my own stress and maximise my productivity on the exam.
My tutoring will ensure a strong foundational understanding of key physics concepts, and on top of this I’ll share my own personal shortcuts as well as the recurring mistakes and patterns to watch out for in exams, so that nothing is left to chance.
I also provide physics tuition for Years 7-10 or anyone looking to study out of interest.
Subjects offered:
- Physics - VCE Units 1-4
- Science - Years 7-10 (physics focussed)
- Enrichment subjects of student’s interest (e.g. quantum physics, fluid dynamics etc)
MUSIC Whether you are an aspiring songwriter, performer, or just like to mess around on a keyboard, learning music theory can feel like a chore, filled with seemingly pointless tools to memorise.
I’ll help to illuminate some of the fundamental knowledge that will bring your music to the next level, from beginner lessons in scales, rhythm and intervals, up to advanced lessons in harmony, counterpoint and style.
Subjects offered:
- Music Theory – AMEB Grade 1-4 (Higher grades also offered on case-by-case basis)
- Music Theory/Orchestration – University (Year 1-3)
ART/DESIGN
As an avid painter and sketcher, I believe that mastering the essentials such as light, colour, form and perspective is just as important as mastering the medium, no matter what style you’re interested in. I’ll share the skills and techniques I have learned through years of experience and training; I guarantee these are some of the most insightful lessons you will find outside of art school.
I also bring my experience of having completed a number of high school art and design subjects, including VCD, for which I received a raw 50 and Premier’s Award after completing in Year 11.
Subjects offered:
- Visual Communication and Design - VCE Units 1-4
- Visual Art – Year 7-10
- Graphic Design – Year 7-10
- Art tutoring (Beginner and Intermediate)
