Experienced Maths Tutor
Cairns tutor in Algebra, Calculus, Engineering, Further Maths, Maths, Maths Methods, Statistics
I have more than 30 years experience of teaching and tutoring Mathematics and Engineering. I am a retired University Professor. I enjoy making Maths fun and seeing those "light bulb" moments in my students as they see what it's all about. I have a very flexible approach and each student is an individual. I have made Maths my speciality, although I spent 12 years working as a professional Civil Engineer (all over the world). This does give me a real world perspective of the subjects that I teach and many examples and anecdotes to draw on. My children and grandchildren keep me in touch with modern realities and expectations. I have always received excellent reviews from my students and I am most willing to adjust aspects of teaching to their needs.
I prefer to tutor from my home in Redlynch, where I have an office set up for this and all resources are to hand. However, I can also travel if this is necessary. Email is probably the best method of contact although I do have a Smart Phone that mostly works. I am happy to take on all levels of school Mathematics, but mainly year 7 to year 12, and first year University level Maths and Statistics. I am available at all times, except when I am not available! The only current restriction is when I am timetabled to take classes at the Central Queensland University, which is Thursday and Friday afternoons from March through to June.
I am a retired University Professor, my last full time position was at the University of New England. I currently teach first year Mathematics to engineering students at the Central Queensland University on a casual basis. I also teach students Statistics and take classes in Fundamental Mathematics for University students who basically missed this at school. This would be about year 9 to year 12 at school. I tutor school students at all levels, but mainly year 7 to year 12. I have tutored school level students since about 1985, and my University teaching started in 1980. I have taken a special interest in mathematics and statistics, but I also love all science and taught conventional engineering subjects such as Hydraulics, Hydrology, Project Management, Water Resources and Environmental Management. Prior to University teaching I worked as a professional Civil Engineer all over the world for 12 years. I can relate mathematics to the real world.
I have a Bachelor of Science (honours) in Civil Engineering, a Master of Science in Water Resources Technology and a Doctor of Philosophy (research thesis) in Engineering Science. I also have current professional qualifications as a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (Australia), I am a Chartered Engineer and I am on the National Engineering Register. To write this lot out it looks like:
Richard Faulkner, BSc(Eng), MSc, PhD, FIEAust, CPEng, NER, APEC Engineer IntPE(Aus)
I also have more than 100 publications to my name (refereed journal articles)
However, what really matters is that I have a passion for teaching and helping students, and I have always received excellent reviews from my students.
