Since 2001, Spectrum Tuition has established itself as the number one choice for group tutoring in Melbourne. We take a logical and systematic approach to helping your child achieve their goals.
Step 1: We take the time to understand what students need through our FREE initial assessment and consultation session (approximately 2 hours). This assessment tests material over several year levels in order to pin-point precisely which level your child is at.
For example, if your child is in Grade 6, we will give her the Grade 5 to Year 8 assessment to identify her specific level.
Step 2: Based on these results, we will design a personalised timetable outlining the most suitable classes to address your child's needs.
Step 3: Students will join classes where a well trained instructor will TEACH the material at their level and guide them through the exercises and activities to ensure they are confident to complete the homework tasks independently. Processes are implemented to check for understanding and follow up any incomplete or incorrect work.
Step 4: The following week, students are assessed on the previous week's work with results posted online so improvements can be tracked overtime. Our course books are carefully designed and structured, and material is based closely on the latest Australian curriculum documents. Concepts are built on steadily from the previous week to ensure gaps are filled and mastery is achieved.

ABOUT US:
The centre is owned and run by a qualified teacher and tutors are top performing university students, with many achieving ATARs of 99.00 and above. To ensure classes are of a consistent high standard, all tutors are required to take part in initial and regular ongoing teaching training to ensure that they understand how students learn, and to implement strategies in order to run effective and engaging classes.
Each week, students will receive carefully structured and designed course materials that contains worked examples that the tutor will explain in class, practice questions and homework exercises. Materials are written in line with current curriculum documents and also contain NAPLAN style questions in relevant years. This will ensure that learning is achieved in context to promote understanding and retention. Each subject runs for 1.5 hours.

About the founder/ owner:After completing a combined Bachelor of Arts/ Bachelor of Commerce degree, Thuy
pursued an Honours degree in Arts, majoring in linguistics and graduated with First
Class Honours from the University of Melbourne. Following this, she completed a
Bachelor of Teaching, also graduating with Honours from the University of
Melbourne.
Thuy is extremely passionate about education and teaching. As one of the original
founders of Spectrum Tuition, establishing
and tutoring at the centre since 2001, she is proud to be working with such a talented
group of hand picked tutors who are equally as passionate about learning and teaching as she is.
It is particularly exciting when she witnesses hard work, dedication and commitment

"Our daughter started at Spectrum Tuition (Footscray campus) in the middle of year 7 right at the beginning of the 40 week program. Our aim was to help her prepare for the selective schools exam the following year. While our daughter’s school teachers found her performance to be at the expected level, we realised that she was lacking in motivation as she did not always feel challenged at school. The initial Spectrum assessment uncovered a range of concepts that were not fully understood therefore we decided to proceed with the Spectrum Tutoring not only help our daughter prepare for the exam, but also to help her further improve her school performance. What the tutoring classes have done for our daughter has been incredible and we are so grateful for all that Spectrum has done to make her feel she can achieve her goals in life. The transformation has been astounding and it is amazing what a difference regular tuition can have on a student. She has developed into a much more confident, independent and motivated student, which is more than what we ever hoped to achieve with tutoring. In fact, after completing the selective program, she has asked us to arrange to continue on with additional year specific Spectrum tutoring programs until Year 12 to keep up with the standard she has become accustomed to and she is truly excelling at school! Even though Spectrum is approximately a 1 hour drive away (one way) from our home, we felt the program was the right fit for our daughter because the material is very carefully structured and helped our daughter progress successfully through all the relevant topics in preparation for the exam. She was given practice exams only after she had learnt the concepts, which allowed her to apply the knowledge, see weekly improvements, and build up her confidence. The tutors were all very supportive and helped her overcome many of the difficulties that she had. Over the course of one year, our daughter learnt how to write engaging persuasive and narrative essays in 15 minutes, which she could not achieve before. She also learnt how to tackle some very challenging mathematics concepts and reasoning topics that she had never seen before, by learning and practising similar questions using the efficient strategies taught in class. The mock exam at the end and the exam packs produced by Spectrum solidified her understanding of the concepts and gave her a realistic view of what the actual exam would be like. This helped her develop the exam strategies and time management skills to help her feel confident on the actual day. We highly recommend Spectrum Tuition for any parent looking to help their child prepare for a selective exam. Spectrum helps students stick to a study schedule, learn the complex concepts in an enjoyable and accessible manner, and they make a real effort to update their materials to reflect the latest changes on the exam, which we really appreciated.
