As an experienced Maths Teacher and Tutor, it is clear that the student must first be instructed and become fluent in the fundamental skills directly targeted from the syllabus of each course. Extension follows with teaching and practice in the higher-order thinking skills incorporating applied questions, interpretive and reasoning difficulties, along with complex problem-solving.
