My name is Ryan, and I'm looking to get back into the tutoring scene after a short break.
I am currently a final year medical student completing my Doctor of Medicine at Deakin University, and am currently based at Barwon Health completing the clinical portion of my degree. I have had experience with tutoring and teaching students of all levels across many areas, including Literature, Health Sciences, Chemistry, and General Assignment Writing. I am also able to tutor in Medical Interviews and GAMSAT for those wishing to pursue a career in Medicine.
Main areas of expertise in tutoring:
- Year 12 Biology
- Year 12 Chemistry
- Year 10 Literature
- Health Sciences
- Research and lab reports
- Assignment Writing and EndNote
- Medical Interviews (unable to assist Deakin applicants due to conflict of interest)
- Philosophy and Ethics
Lesson Structure: I like to take a problem based approach to learning a concept. I usually work through a topic with a student on a whiteboard, and constantly ask questions to prompt thinking while tutoring. I am also a fan of using online mediums like Kahoot or Anki to reinforce concepts. This keeps the students engaged and helps aid retention. I also make worksheets (with time for preparation on the desired topics) and help students find a way to break down the information easily.
I have 6 years of experience with teaching children and adolescents in swimming in Geelong, and have also previously worked as a nanny for a local family. I have a keen interest in paediatrics and general medicine, and am passionate about medicine and medical sciences. I pride myself on my ability to interact and engage with students. I also have a current Working with Children's Check and Police Check.
Availability: I am available to tutor after 5:00pm most days, and available on weekends.
Best Contact method: by email or text message
Meeting place: Happy to travel to school library, public library, or student's home. Can run a session at my home in central Geelong if needed. I am also available to do a Skype session if necessary!
I have previously tutored a number of students in VCE and IB Biology, Chemistry, and Literature.
I am a final year student in the Doctor of Medicine program at Deakin University. I have consistently performed strongly in this degree, and sit in the top bracket of the cohort as of exams in 2019, .
I have previously completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science, with a year of Honours by research included, with a final GPA of 6.95/7.00. I majored in Infectious Disease and Immunity. My honours project was on the biochemistry of cell remodelling by a malaria parasite, which was undertaken at the School of Medicine at Deakin University.
For high school I completed an IB diploma at Kardinia International College, and achieved an ATAR of 98.80 (IB Raw score of 42/45).
I have previously worked as a swimming instructor for 6 years, so I am highly capable of working with children and communicating concepts. I also am heavily involved with the paediatric health club within the School of Medicine, and am running the program as president for 2020.
$50/hour for private, or $35 per person per hour for groups of 2 or more. For distances greater than 10km from Geelong CBD, a travel fee of $10 applies.
