Hi, my name is James and I have been a teacher and tutor here in Canberra for over 5 years now!

I have had vast experience working in a wide variety of schools and with a wide range of diverse student learning needs, which has allowed me to develop a deeper teaching toolbox of skills and strategies to help support student learning outcomes. Because of this, I believe I have a diverse teaching background with much to offer.

So what can I offer you and your child?

1) Proficient communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt my presentation of learning content and teaching instruction in a variety of verbal, visual, and kinaesthetic mediums to cater for the full spectrum of student learning styles and abilities.

2) Building rapport. Through my calm, empathetic and friendly approach, I am able to quickly build rapport with students which allows them to feel comfortable with me and develop their confidence in taking on learning challenges. I teach them to find and celebrate their strengths, and to build strategies around their weaknesses.

3) Personalised Programming. Through getting to know students, I quickly learn what makes each student tick and evaluate what their current strengths, weaknesses, and gaps are within their learning. Through this, I work directly with parents and teachers to develop a personalised learning program that is aligned with the school’s curriculum, the student’s needs, and the parents’ expectations and goals for their child.

4) Personalised work materials and resources.
Learning becomes more enjoyable when it is linked to something you are passionate about. I greatly enjoy learning the passions of my students, and creating or adapting work materials to incorporate those passions. A student who loves to read about superheroes might find themselves writing persuasive texts about which superhero is the best. A student who loves to play a specific sport might find that a lot of their maths work is applied through examples from that sport.

5) Experience working with a wide variety of diverse learning needs.
I have developed a vast range of strategies to support students with diverse learning needs including ADHD, ASD, EALD students, physical and/or intellectual disabilities
