Hi, I’m Aayush. A recent Normanhurst Boys High School graduate studying medical science at USYD. I am a passionate tutor and have consistently received exceptional results in NAPLAN, OC, Selective and HSC.
How I teach: I find myself personally intrigued by the cognitive psychology of learning and the literature regarding memory. As such I tend to have a more progressive teaching style. In the lessons I prepare for my students I incorporate the principles of active recall, spaced repetition and the Leitner system to maximise learning. Schools teach students what to learn and why - they never teach HOW to learn. In my first lesson with any student I differentiate revision / study techniques of low utility against those of high utility and show students how to incorporate these techniques in their study. After each session I provide detailed feedback regarding the students’ progress to the parent which discusses the overview of the lesson and how to proceed with further study.
Academic History: Until I came across these aforementioned study techniques, I too struggled with my studies. I would put in the hours and study hard, but my marks were still poor. I was still receiving 50% scores in Term 1 Year 12. So, with a triple digit rank, and nothing left to lose, I decided to rework my entire studying regiment - I forgot everything I knew about studying and instead applied the principles from peer-reviewed literature to my studies. Over the course of 6 months, I dropped 2 digits from my overall rank and went from an estimated ATAR of 79 to 97.
Location: I am available at West Ryde / Eastwood / Parramatta and Ryde libraries. Limited availability at Redfern.
I do offer an initial trial lesson to provide some assurance regarding the quality of tuition I provide - if you decide not to continue with my tuition this session will not be billable. Feel to free to contact me - whether it's to book a trial lesson or ask for a referral.
Having personally studied the K-12 NESA syllabus I am very familiar with the outcomes examined. My time as a classroom tutor has refined my behavioural management skills whilst my experience as a private tutor has enabled me to adapt my teaching for each individual student. I do offer an initial trial lesson to provide some assurance regarding the quality of tuition I provide - if you decide not to continue with my tuition this session will not be billable.
