Optimum Learning Experience
Eastern Victoria tutor in English, French, Further Maths, Maths, Maths Methods, Maths Specialist, Physics, Reading, Teacher Training, Organisation skills, basic money
management, personal budgeting,
Catering for a huge variety of students, I can assist ambitious VCE Maths students to achieve even higher results, or playfully help a little prep to boost their reading and writing, plus the confidence to continue learning. I am qualified in both primary and secondary education, and have worked with students from age six to seventy. My main areas of expertise are maths and literacy, but I am qualified for Physics and French, everything at primary level, life skills, and organisation skills.
I treat all students as individuals, with strengths, some difficulties, potential, and personality. I have worked with a range of abilities, both in terms of the spectrum of cognitive ability, and in terms of other diverse abilities. My explanations make concepts seem easy to understand. When appropriate I use demonstrations, hands-on experiences, scaffolded learning, multi-sensory teaching. If a student has skill gaps, I find these as we go along (or sometimes by testing) and fill them in. I try to accommodate the student’s learning style and ability sets. I am creative and adaptable when it is needed. If the student needs a challenge, I concentrate on higher order thinking skills, and rely more on eliciting thought and adding extra facets than modelling processes and providing repetition.
I see my role as responding to the student, as a person, in ways that provide the optimum learning experience.

Experience
I have been self-employed as a tutor for thirteen years. This is after many years of experience as a teacher in classrooms, small special-needs groups and training organisations. I have worked with all age groups from preps to adults of seventy. My students have various abilities. I enjoy the mental stimulation of tackling an advanced maths problem in VCE Maths Methods or finding a way to accommodate the learning style or disability of a student who does not thrive in a regular setting.
