Private lessons allow me to fill in the information gaps that a student is experiencing. I am also a qualified translator (several languages) and occasional interpreter (5 languages) so I have come across a lot of my own information gaps! It can be so frustrating when you wish you knew more, so I do understand.

I teach all levels and ages: I often just teach HOW to learn another language. But I specialise in changing a learner's pronunciation: there are many practical ways to do this. I also teach interpreting and translating skills, for any language combination, and can help you prepare for a) classroom exams, b) professional requirements or c) recreational.

Am available to teach at most times, including weekends, and am registered with the ACT Working with Vulnerable People.

Something I have introduced is just having ONE LESSON. It's surprising how many problems can be fixed by just seeing you once...This is why my fee is $95 per hour. (As an experienced professional amy fees are aligned with legal and medical specialists' fees.) Each lesson can have a variety of activities, and use materials produced in the target country, such as TV, which ensures the language is up to date and many native speakers' voices are heard.

Apart from schoolchildren (in private and government schools, at both primary and
secondary levels) I have taught individual members of staff at the French Embassy,
defence cadets at the Australian Defence Force Academy, and Australian diplomats learning a
language pre-posting (through the Department of Foreign Affairs).

In 2012, 2014 and 2016 I taught in the joint Canberra Multicultural Forum
Committee/Canberra Institute of Technology Solutions program, teaching interpreting
skills for community languages.

Last year I taught beginner Swedish for 3 months to prepare P. for his high school exchange program in Stockholm. We used a lot of YouTube videos to study so that P's language was up to date, and suitable for a teenager.

And recently I helped a little Indian boy adjust to going to Primary School in Canberra: it didn't take long at all.

From time to time friends of friends have invited me to stay the weekend so I can
give them an immersion language experience: Italian and French are the most popular, of
course!

Rates

I know you can see a teacher who charges less: but I have a university degree in teaching
and also became a professional translator and interpreter. I do not know of other teachers
who are using the languages they teach, do you? My fee is $95 per hour.

I focus on the PRACTICAL, REALISTIC ways to learn a language, and have had many years
to notice what works and what is time-wasting and frustrating.
