Dear students and parents,

My name is Emily, and I attended Manly Selective Campus on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, where I achieved 99/100 in HSC English Advanced and 49/50 in English Extension 1. I am now a scholarship holder at UNSW, studying a double degree in Law and Arts, with a major in English Literature. Alongside university, I work full-time as a senior paralegal in criminal law.

I have seven years of experience tutoring English, both independently and through tutoring companies. While I work predominantly with HSC students across the Standard, Advanced, Extension 1 and Extension 2 courses, I also tutor primary and high school students, including those studying the IB. I have experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, including ADHD, dyslexia and conditions requiring the assistance of a scribe.

As a tutor, I am a strong advocate for exam-style preparation, particularly practice papers and timed responses completed under exam conditions. I regularly set these tasks for homework and provide detailed feedback to help students understand where they can improve. When students engage with this work consistently, I often see substantial progress in a relatively short time. It is especially encouraging for students to see that progress in their own writing.

I care deeply about how my students are going, both academically and personally, and I take the time to understand their individual strengths, challenges and goals. I know that English can feel frustrating or intimidating, particularly when a student has ideas but struggles to express them. I enjoy helping students find their own voice and develop an approach to the subject that works for them.

Over the past five years, more than 95% of my students have achieved Band 6 results, with the remaining students receiving high Band 5s. My entire 2025 cohort achieved HSC English results between 90 and 96, and two of my students have also achieved state rankings.

The most rewarding part of tutoring for me, however, is seeing a student begin to believe in their own ability. Many come to me lacking confidence or enthusiasm for English, and finish Year 12 with not only stronger results, but a genuine understanding of what they can achieve. English has ultimately become the highest-scoring subject for all of my students, and I am incredibly proud of the work they have put in to get there.

I offer a combination of online and face-to-face tutoring. As I work full-time, online sessions provide greater flexibility and, in my experience, are a highly effective format for English tutoring. My students and I work collaboratively through Google Drive, which allows us to share resources, develop ideas and review feedback together. Face-to-face sessions are an option on weekends.

My rate is $200 per hour.
