I am experienced tutoring in many different settings and roles, including seven years as an integration aide. I have tutored a wide range of subjects at all levels over the past 14 years (predominantly years 10, 11 and 12), both privately and through institutions, developing particular expertise in German (native speaker), English literature/essay writing/text analysis, ESL (English as a Second Language), psychology, history, economics, science (up to university level); physics and biology. I have tutored in the IB DP in all of these areas. I hold a Bachelor of Science (Horticulture), a Graduate Certificate of Science (Astronomy) and a Master of Science (Astronomy).

I have increasingly focused on the higher years and the VCE (as well as some final year students from other states) and the IB DP in the last few years, conducting individual sessions primarily. Over the years of teaching children, teenagers and some adults of vastly different ages and learning styles, I have developed the ability to adapt to the various predilections of the students rapidly. Repetition and building a good foundation in any new field and skill is key. I’ll meet students wherever they are at and take them forward to their desired goals.

When working with new students, I begin with an assessment of the knowledge/skill level they are comfortable at; I look at past assignments and work samples, discuss the student's experiences, and then specifically focus on those skill-areas which are of primary importance in meeting assessment requirements, teaching a broad understanding and competence in addition to answering specific questions well. This gives the student the ability to adapt to a variety of potential assignment and exam scenarios. I would like students to feel confident and in control of the material and able to field curveballs without breaking a sweat. I provide guidance on how to readily identify the core elements of a given subject matter, around which the rest of the concepts are structured, so that learning falls into place as easily as possible.
