I have experience tutoring in different settings and roles, including six years as an integration aide at two different primary schools. I have tutored a wide range of subjects at all levels over the past 12 years, both privately and through institutions. I have developed particular expertise in tutoring German, English literature/essay writing/text analysis, ESL (English as a Second Language), psychology, history, geography, economics, finance (at university level), natural science, physics, chemistry and biology. Currently, I am studying full-time towards a Master of Science (Astronomy). I love sharing my knowledge of the planetary sciences with young people.
I am currently reorienting myself to catering for the needs of families undertaking home-schooling. I find small classes particularly conducive to meeting the needs of children and parents looking for different ways of adapting the school curriculum to their family’s requirements. Over many years of experience teaching children and teenagers of different ages and learning styles, I have developed the ability to adapt to the different learning styles of the students in the group whilst at the same time fostering group cohesion. Repetition, building a good foundation in any new skill is important as is patience, so the children who are not as far along don’t feel left behind. On the other hand, it’s important to make the children who do particularly well feel good about their achievements. I’ll work to meet your children wherever they are at and take them forward to the goals that you/we set as part of the home-schooling path.
Feel free to call me for a comprehensive chat about your child or teenager’s educational journey and needs, so we can work out whether a trial session would be the right step forward.
Please note that I offer in-person sessions at my home in Euroa, home visits and online sessions via live-conferencing software, including Zoom and Microsoft Teams. I am also available in Melbourne to conduct home-visit tutoring from February 2022.

I have worked with primary, high school and university students. Everyone learns in their own way and at their own pace and over the years I have developed an adaptive and patient approach to teaching, based on my assessment of the learning mode best suited to the student. Home-schooling in particular requires a flexible approach to the implementation of the curriculum within the broader goals of the educational path the family/group is taking. I am also available to assist in crafting an individualised curriculum and step-by-step goals where desired. Home-schooling can be a new challenge and I am here to make it into an enjoyable and transformative educational experience; it is an opportunity to foster and deeply engrain the natural love of learning that children already have, something that many schools are not achieving at the moment.
When working with a new student, I begin with an assessment of the knowledge/skill level they are comfortable at. I look at past assignments, and then specifically work on those skill-areas which are going to be most important in meeting subject requirements, focusing on creating broad understanding and competence in addition to answering specific questions well. This gives the student the ability to adapt to a variety of potential assignment and exam scenarios. I want them to feel confident and in control of the material and able to field curveballs without breaking a sweat. I provide guidance on how to readily identify the core elements of a given subject matter, around which the rest of the concepts are structured, so that learning falls into place with a minimum of exertion.
I am a German native speaker - Melbourne University Academic Excellence Award in German (2007)
