I travel to these locations
Dandenong is where I live, Eastern Suburbs, Melbourne Uni, any library along the Cranbourne lineHi,
I'm a maths, physics, and computer science tutor with industry experience as a data scientist and 10+ years experience teaching. I teach years 7-12 and also at a university level (up to 2nd year mathematics, 3rd year comp sci). My lessons are for students of any level of expertise - I can teach you whether you are struggling to understand the concepts or whether you are a high achiever trying to pursue a fulfilling career.
The first lesson is free and is typically spent getting to know the student, their current level of knowledge, their learning goals, what they want out of this arrangement, etc. After that, students can come prepared with questions or topics they wish to cover, we can go through homework questions together, I can prepare problems of my own in a way that helps us identify gaps in the student's knowledge - whichever is preferred on any given day.
Lessons can be conducted at your home, we could meet in a library, or we can conduct the lesson online via Zoom. I live in Dandenong and regularly travel to Melbourne uni via car and train, so any nearby suburbs or a library near a station along the Cranbourne/Pakenham line are fair game. In person lessons are preferred, but Zoom is always an option if travel is inconvenient.
I will also be available online to answer any questions the students may have outside of lessons. Simply send me a text or email and I will answer as soon as possible! =)
**Important: I cannot help with any tertiary level assignments. I can explain the topics covered, but all assignment work must be your own.
Availability:
Any day except Monday and Friday.
Teaching style:
I place a lot of emphasis on getting the student to think through and articulate the solutions to problems themselves - I can explain things clearly and concisely to them, but until they can explain it themselves, they haven't truly understood the topic. Physics and Mathematics in particular require this sort of deep understanding - you can't do well by simply regurgitating facts that you've memorised. My teaching style takes this into account by nudging the students towards finding the answer themselves by asking them questions that lead their train of thought down the right path.
Another thing I try to do in my lessons is to make sure that the student understands *why* they are learning what they are learning. Unfortunately in my experience high school and university don't often do a very good job of this. So I try my best to understand and explain how the knowledge students are being taught all fits together, how it can be used in the workplace and how it's relevant to their lives in general. I also try to show students the genuinely fascinating parts of the subjects they learn - fractals, Godel's incompleteness theorem, the halting problem, etc. When students are motivated and, crucially, they have context for the knowledge they're learning, that's when it has lasting value and is retained long after their exams are finished.
I contrast this with an exam-oriented approach, one that specifically tries to "win the academic game" and get high marks, but may prioritise this over a deep and lasting understanding. In my experience, at least in the subjects I teach, high marks often follow from a deep understanding, but a deep understanding does not necessarily follow from high marks. So I emphasise understanding above all, but can certainly help with exam techniques if you wish.
A bit about me:
I completed my Bachelor of Science at Monash University at the end of 2017, majoring in Physics and Applied Mathematics, then had a gap year in 2018 where I tried various hobbies and projects and started a personal tutoring business. During this time I also spent 3 months in a volunteer role teaching at a liceo (high school) in Italy through the World Education Program. After this I completed 1 additional honours year in Mathematics, graduating with my Bachelor of Science (Honours) at the end of 2019. During this year I transitioned towards data science and machine learning - my research project was Applications of Topology to Neural Networks. Since then, I've worked 1 year in industry as a data scientist in a startup (PI.EXCHANGE), ~6 months of freelance data science work, and the last 4 years teaching maths and computer science at a university level.
This year (2026) I have started the Master of Science (Bioinformatics) course at the University of Melbourne as I attempt to start a career in medical research. As I am now studying full time, I have quit my teaching roles at Monash and Australian Catholic Universities. But I've acquired a deep love of teaching over the years, it's genuinely fulfilling whenever students succeed and I've seen and helped them along that path, so I am keeping this meaningful role going by restarting my old personal tutoring business.
I also have many hobbies =). I paint miniatures, and also print them using a resin 3D printer, I am a Taekwondo black belt 2nd Dan, a blue belt in jiu-jitsu, I climb rocks, I have built a drone, I am an avid enjoyer of DnD, both as a player and as a DM, and most recently I have started LARPing at Swordcraft Melbourne!
