I have studied Japanese since I started high school, up to and including the years I spent living in Japan. I also have a very thorough knowledge of my native English, and have always enjoyed the logic and structure of mathematics.

I am a friendly, patient person who is happy to go at the pace my students require. I derive great satisfaction from witnessing the confidence boost that comes when a student finally is able to understand something they previously found confusing.

For school students who already have a curriculum to follow, we can use their textbooks and homework assignments as a starting point to make sure that the student is completing the work and understanding everything. Once I've identified particular sticking points for the student, I can supplement with other study materials aimed at addressing that particular area. The best way to tackle sticky areas will depend upon the student's learning style and the type of problem.

For adult learners, I will happily incorporate any textbooks or other materials they may wish to use, or I can provide materials to aid in their study of (in the case of language) the four macro skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking. I can set homework tasks if the student is keen to put more time in outside of our lessons, but this of course is up to the student.

My schedule is flexible and I always aim to find a lesson time that is convenient for my student.

Experience

I lived in Japan for four years during which time I taught English (ESL) to Japanese people of all ages, from elementary school through to university level and everything in between. I also held private lessons for adults and high school students.

Whilst studying at university in Australia I tutored high school maths privately.

Over the last several years I have tutored primary and high school students on a part-time basis in maths, English and Japanese.

Qualifications

* TESOL Certification
* Japanese Language Proficiency Test - achieved JLPT Level 1 in 2004
* Bachelor Arts-Bachelor of Science with majors in Japanese and Computer Science respectively
* Golden Key International Honour Society member
* OP1 (and graduated among the top 500 students in Australia that year)

Rates

$75/hour

I'm happy to discuss a discount for group lessons.

If a lesson must be cancelled please ensure you provide a minimum of 24 hours notice. For last-minute cancellations I may charge a cancellation fee equivalent to the cost of the lesson.
