All my previous VCE English students have achieved study scores of 40+ :)
Hi, I’m Lily.
I specialise in VCE English classes, helping students develop thoughtful ideas, express themselves clearly and feel more confident about their next assessment.
I achieved a raw 45 in English and was the dux for mainstream English at my school. Through several years of tutoring, I’ve also had the pleasure of helping my previous VCE English students achieve study scores above 40.
I’d love to help you work towards a result you’re proud of, too.
That starts with understanding you: the way you think, the parts of English you enjoy, the things you find difficult and what you’d like to achieve.
Perhaps you understand your text but struggle to decide what to write when a prompt appears.
Perhaps you have plenty of ideas, but your paragraphs never quite communicate what you mean.
Or perhaps you’re already performing well and want help developing the depth and precision needed to aim for 40 or 45+.
Wherever you’re starting, I want you to have a clear way forward.
English involves skills we can work on together: interpreting a prompt, developing an argument, choosing useful evidence, explaining its significance and expressing your thinking clearly.
Once we identify which part is holding you back, your practice can become much more focused.
So, are you currently…
…spending hours reading and annotating, but struggling to turn that preparation into stronger SAC responses?
…receiving comments like “go deeper” or “be more specific”, without knowing what to change?
…finding it difficult to begin an essay without a memorised introduction or structure?
…feeling disappointed with your marks and losing motivation?
Or…
…already achieving strong results and looking for someone who will challenge your interpretations and sharpen your writing?
Bring that to our lessons. We’ll work through it together.
Understand what the question needs
We’ll practise unpacking prompts, recognising their implications and developing an interpretation that responds directly to them.
You’ll learn how to select relevant ideas from your knowledge of the text and shape them into a clear, connected argument.
Receive feedback you can put into practice
If I suggest developing your analysis, I’ll explain where it needs more depth and show you how to take the reasoning further.
We might work through one paragraph together, discuss what you were trying to communicate and examine how different choices change its meaning.
Then you’ll practise applying that understanding yourself.
My aim is for you to recognise what makes your writing effective and make those decisions with increasing independence.
Build confidence across each area of English
For text response, we’ll develop interpretations, examine the author’s choices and connect evidence to your argument.
For creating texts, we’ll work on purposeful writing, developing your voice and adapting your ideas to the audience, context and task.
For analysing argument, we’ll explore how arguments, language and visuals work together to influence a particular audience.
Sample responses, guided practice and assessment criteria will help make the expectations clearer.
Feel comfortable asking questions
You’re welcome to bring an unfinished essay, a paragraph you’re unhappy with or an idea you’re unsure how to explain.
I’ll listen to what you’re trying to say, give you time to think and explain things another way when you need it.
I care about your progress, and I’ll encourage you to aim high while helping you take manageable steps towards that goal.
Have structure and support around your study
My online classes combine explanation, discussion and writing practice, with clear goals to guide what you work on next.
We’ll revisit feedback, notice recurring difficulties and recognise the improvements you’re making. That gives your preparation a direction and helps you see where your effort is going.
Some students need stronger foundations. Some need help applying what they know. Others need close attention to the details that keep limiting their marks.
Our work together will reflect what you need.
Online classes are $20 per hour, with a free trial.
Come and meet me, experience a lesson and see how we work together.
Send me a message with your year level, the texts you’re studying and what you’d like help with. You’re welcome to bring a recent piece of writing, too.
I’d love to hear what you’re aiming for.

Experience
“I used to feel embarrassed showing someone an essay I knew wasn’t very good. Lily made it easy to ask for help. She would listen to what I was trying to say, help me develop the idea and explain why the changes worked. I became much more comfortable sharing my writing and asking questions.”
— Rohit Sharma
“I was already doing well in English, but I kept getting similar marks without knowing what would take my essays further. Lily picked up on things I hadn’t noticed, especially assumptions in my arguments and evidence I hadn’t fully explored. Our discussions challenged me to think more carefully about my interpretations.”
— Tharuka happurarachi
“The most helpful part was finally understanding my feedback. If a teacher wrote ‘needs more analysis’, Lily would work through the paragraph with me and show me where I’d stopped explaining. Then I’d try revising it myself. After a while, I started recognising those gaps while I was writing.”
— Solomon Sardar
“English was the subject I always put off because I never knew where to start. Having regular lessons with Lily gave me something manageable to work towards each week. We focused on specific things, like planning an argument or improving one paragraph, which made the work feel much less overwhelming.”
— Jonathan Ciju
“I used to memorise paragraphs because I didn’t trust myself to write something good under pressure. Working with Lily helped me practise responding to different prompts and making choices about which ideas and evidence to use. I gradually felt more prepared to handle the question in front of me.”
— Viabhavi Vera
"I couldn't be happier with my experience with Lily! From the moment I walked in, her staff was incredibly welcoming and professional.
She's not only knowledgeable but genuinely cares about helping her students succeed.
What I really appreciate is how patient and encouraging she is.
I never felt rushed, and she always made sure I fully understood each concept before moving on.
I've seen a significant improvement in my grades and understanding... I highly recommend Lily!"
- Dominic
Absolutely phenomenal teacher, I highly recommend Lily for your children if they are trying to achieve a good score, my youngest absolutely loves her!
The masterclasses are just so amazing, I could see throughout the year that my daughter loved her classes, and I guess it worked for her leading to her 50 in english!
- Lau L
Lily has greatly helped my understanding of analysis as I used to be really unconfident.
One of the things I like most about her are her small class sizes, which allow for more one-on-one attention. If I have any doubts, Lily's always happy to go over the essay again and again until I fully understand it, you're actually amazing!!
