Experienced VCE Chemistry Teacher & VCAA Assessor

Melbourne tutor in Chemistry, General Science

My Tutoring Philosophy & Approach
I believe effective tutoring starts with understanding how each student thinks, not just what they are struggling with. Every student comes with a different background, confidence level, and learning style, and my role is to meet them at their point of need and guide them forward in a clear, supportive way.

I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to slow the pace, ask the right questions, and help students build confidence alongside academic skills. Many students who come to me feel overwhelmed by Chemistry; my aim is to make it logical, manageable, and even enjoyable.

How I Tutor
I begin by identifying gaps and misconceptions, then explicitly teach concepts step by step using worked examples and real-life connections. Lessons are structured but flexible, adjusting to the student’s progress and goals.

Lesson Structure
A typical session includes:
Brief revision or retrieval questions
Clear explanation of key ideas
Guided practice with increasing difficulty
Exam- or SAC-style questions (where appropriate)
Specific feedback and study strategies

Support Provided
I provide tailored worksheets, revision summaries, practice questions, and guidance on effective study habits. I also help students plan for SACs and exams, manage workload, and develop independent learning skills.

Who I Work Best With
Students who lack confidence and need concepts explained clearly
Students who are working hard but not seeing results
High-achieving students aiming to refine exam technique
EAL students who benefit from clear language and structure

Availability & Format
Weekday evenings and weekends
