Hi, my name is Michelle! I am currently studying in an interstate university for a medical degree at University of Queensland and I graduated in 2021 with a 98.70 ATAR. I am sure that this particular statement does not distinguish me from other high achievers, some with even higher ATARS than me, and attend more prestigious universities.
As a tutor with 4 months of class tutoring experience and 4 years of private one on one tutoring experience, I am here to curate your learning experience to be specific to you. Achieving a high mark is not just simply a matter of "studying harder", "writing more notes" and banning youtube and instagram. That is a totalitarian approach that is completely outdated. As a tutor I am here to help guide your study routine to be more profitable in your learning experience, alongside with teach you content that you may need in preparation for your upcoming assessments or exams. I understand as a recently graduated student the stress of internal exams alongside with the general stress of HSC/QCAA. At the end of my internals I was not even in the top 10, but at the end of externals I was. How did I manage to turn this around?
Hard work and success is usually perceived as individual work; however, it is the culmination of the relentless teamwork and the network of relationships for that particular individual. I am eager to provide this support network as I myself understand how hard the senior years are. I have always pushed my students to their very limits but not at the expense of their mental health and this more gentle approach to learning has had high success rates with many of my students in the class tutoring setting ranking consistently in the top 5. I have helped a QA student shift their ranks upwards from 4 for the IB system to a 7 at the end of their year 12 exams. Additionally, a student of mine had been told to drop Extension 1 Mathematics (Mathematics Methods) in Year 11; however, with my help he went from second last in his grade to 13th in his grade for Year 12.
I also understand that there can be a disconnect between students and their teachers or the teaching methods offered at school, as I myself have come to understand that whilst there may be learning methods that are endorsed as universal - some students may feel neglected as a result of the method not clicking with them. As a result, I individually curate my lessons to a student's areas of improvements in the hopes of refining their knowledge for an upcoming exam or assessment task. I also understand the last minute rush or procrastination and I will provide my number for the student to contact if they need a last minute lesson or explanation.
Furthermore, as someone who was brutally swamped in UQ with the sheer amount of knowledge needed to supplement my foundation in medicine in physiology and anatomy - I have engineered my learning methods to revise and learn content in a faster and more efficient way. Through my own technique, I have managed to score 90% in the theory exam for the Human Anatomy course offered at UQ with very little revising done in the lead up to the exam. I am happy to teach this method to you to enhance your learning and scores :).
As a tutor my role is not to do your work for you or replace your teacher. I am here to support and guide your learning, and push you to your full potential because at the end of the day it is your own hard work that pulls you across the line. However, due to my experience I can make this process a lot easier for you. :)

Experience
I have tutored at a tutoring centre in Sydney before primarily in Physics. I have grown these classes from 1 student to a class with 15 students in the span of 3 terms. This can be attributed to my great attention to detail for upcoming assessment tasks and tailoring my classes to the needs of my students. As someone who has just recently graduated and was part of the 2021 cohort, I understand that assessments and upcoming exams sometimes take priority over learning new content - thus previously I made sure to allocate personal time to help and curate feedback to my students for their assessments. In this class I have managed to produce students who ranked consistently in the top 5 of their cohort for Physics.
I have also done private tutoring and seen a lot of success in that area, with one of my IB students jumping from a subject grade of 4 to a subject grade of 6 in the span of one term of tutoring. Similarly, one of my primary school students jumped from a grade of 5/6 to 6/7 in the span of a term as well. I understand that simply just having a good ATAR does not necessarily make someone a good tutor. Instead I try and understand my students and their methods of learning. This in conjunction with my extensive knowledge of marking criteria and how to address answers to maximise marks has led to most of my students increasing in their marks.
Additionally, I am a strong candidate in tutoring the Verbal Reasoning section of the UCAT. I ended up scoring above the 90th percentile for this section of the UCAT specifically when I sat it in 2021 and 2023, but this was done with minimal practice. I can also give tips and tricks for Quantitative Reasoning as I scored 880 in that section both times as well.
I have completed BIOM2020, and can offer tutorage advice for gaming the end of semester exam as I ended up getting 88% on the final theory exam.
Recent updates (15/12/2025)
- My Year 7 St Stephen student received Academic Honours in her first year of tutoring with me, shooting up from B and C's in St Stephen primary school system to a perfect GPA of A's and above. She has recently won another Academic Honours award. This was done even with online tutoring :)
- My Year 9 St Stephen Student received Academic Honours as well for having a high GPA, and attributed his success in coming first in PDHPE to my tutorage (I don't take the claim here because he worked really hard).
-Tutored a Year 11 Physics HL IB student at Queensland Academy of Health Science without having studied the IB curriculum and managed to assist him in achieving an IB grade of 6 - the second highest grade. With my help, he achieved nearly full marks in the short-response section of his exam (he lost 1 mark).
- Within a month of undertaking tutoring with me, my Year 10 Somerset student received a medal for excellent writing in her Chemistry assignment. The same student went on to rank 11th in English at Somerset even though she had just moved to the school based on my guidance and advice. This student is currently in Year 11 and has just recently scored 24/25 in her English Literature Essay with my assistance.
-Another Year 11 Somerset student I tutored achieved a grade of 20/20 in their Physics Hand in assignment and 9/10 in their data analysis exam due to my assistance.
- Sat the MARCH 2025 GAMSAT (as I wanted to start a GAMSAT tutoring company later this year) and managed to score 71 in my first attempt at Section II. I believe 71 ranks amongst the higher grades for the essays/section II for this march sitting and I have heard that people scored lower than expected or worse than previous years. I did not practice much for Section II - I only wrote 2 timed essays and 3 introductions.
- One of my Brisbane students ended up shooting her grades up from a B in English to an A in the span of 2 weeks!
-Another Year 11 student in Bundaberg also went from a C grade in Chemistry to a A- in the span of 2 months.
Qualifications
I graduated in 2021 with an ATAR of 98.7 from a top 40 selective school in NSW. However, it is not merely my ATAR that makes me qualified to teach. I understand the journey and the process in striving for a top mark as I did not always start at the top of the grade. My first essay that I wrote I received 12/20. Towards the end of Year 12, I was consistently getting 20/20 and in Year 11 I was the only person out of 166 students to receive a 20/20 essay which resulted in me coming in 1st place for English Advanced. This information is relevant as I understand the struggles of not being a top student, thus my methods will be more catered to the students.
Furthermore, I have been formally trained to tutor in a classroom setting specifically in the fields of Physics and Mathematics, and I have managed to tutor in a classroom setting online and in person. I have also been trained in personal tutoring via companies such as A team and Ezytutoring - that is how to conduct in person and online lessons.
Rates
Highschool: $75 an hour for in person, and $65 for online
