Hi! My name is Olivia, I completed my HSC in 2021 at Abbotsleigh and am currently a 2nd year student studying English Literature at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. I am offering private tutoring in English for Years 7-12 (including HSC Standard, Advanced, Extension 1 or 2 English). I can also offer help in Economics (including HSC) and Latin (up to Year 11). I am happy to help with casual one-off sessions to edit essays or creative writing, and I can also take on a number of regular students. My approach is tailored to each student - from relaxed, low-pressure academic support to intensive mentorship. If you are looking for some extra support or mentorship with your creative Extension 2 English major work, please feel free to get in touch! I am familiar with the curriculum requirements and would love to offer my help after having written a poetry collection for my own Year 12 Major Work.

Due to time difference, I am only available between 8-11am and 7-10pm (Sydney time) via online lessons. I'll usually suggest hour-long lessons. I will be in Sydney between December 16th and January 15th and would be very happy to do any introductory in-person lessons before the new school year begins.

About me:
I am a very friendly, patient, understanding and invested tutor. I try not to pressure my students, preferring to create a calm and trusting environment. I moved to the UK to study English Literature and hope that my deep interest in literature shines through in my lessons.

Lesson structure:
I aim to get to know my students well and work with them patiently, tailoring lessons to their individual needs as I get to know them. I totally empathise with the stresses of HSC and high school generally as well as the emphasis on assessment marks at many schools. While marks are not the be all and end all, there are certainly ways to improve them by consolidating your understanding of the content and the rubric requirements - whether you are thinking about applying to university or just focusing on your learning. In my lessons I hope to help you feel more engaged with your course so that you can better understand key ideas in class and consolidate your skills more comfortably. I encourage you to bring questions about classwork and your writing skills - we can talk through assessments, homework, classwork and university applications. My main goal is to help you feel more comfortable, confident, engaged and happy at school. Ultimately, I am happy to be directed by you depending on your tutoring needs - whether that be casual help or intensive lessons.
