Before getting into who I am - I want to discuss the
extraordinary successes I have had teaching my students. In my
five years of teaching - I have been able to:
- Get
multiple students into
prestigious and
highly sought-after university programs across Australia including
WSU and
UNSW and interviews to
WSU + UNSW + UQ + JCU + Monash and so on. The list continues.
- Achieve a
100% success rate* for students getting into
Medicine programs with my
highly detailed and
state-of-the-art UCAT course.
- Become an
official Medify Ambassador – officially partnering with and being trusted by
undeniably one of the
most prestigious + successful and recognised UCAT training programs internationally. The absolutely
premier #1 UCAT Question Bank. Let me get you access to the
BEST resources you can have.
- Within only my
1st year of UCAT teaching - had
multiple students get into
UNSW/WSU Medicine with
multiple students achieving a
3000+ UCAT score (up to the 98th percentile). With
vastly improved skills and
highly refined resources - I can do much better. In fact - I
have done much better.
A student sent this message to me following her success in getting into
Western Sydney University (WSU) Medicine:
"I actually wanted to let you know that I got into Med at WSU this year. I remember when I was really demotivated, you still believed I'd make it...thanks for all your help".
This message touched my heart. I
care for my students - and I am
so happy for her success. I remember her from her early days in tutoring with me where she started off as a
struggling and unmotivated student who would only barely be able to scrape a
2600 score (just
barely above average – almost at this point
without a chance). Now – she is in one of the
most sought after and prestigious medical programs in ALL of Australia at WSU. This is a university that requires a
bare minimum 2980 UCAT Score (90th Percentile) to even be
considered for entry. From her
unmotivated and
self-doubting self to
a position at WSU Medicine? Wow –
incredible. What a change. I am happy to have been responsible to guiding her towards her phenomenal success and am
extraordinarily proud of her exceptional resilience and dedication to improve herself from the difficult start that she found herself in. I trust that she is doing well at the moment and is on the path to a
fulfilling career in Medicine – making herself and her family so proud.
I hope this shows that
I can deliver results and
get you to where you want to - so long as you are
exceptionally passionate and are
willing to climb the tortuous trail that is path to getting into Medicine. These students are the ones
I want to teach. Got passion? Then we can work together –
and do it well.
Introduction:Now that you have seen my
incredible results - I would love to introduce myself. My name is
Phillip Phan and I am currently a
3rd Year UNSW Medicine Student.
I completed the UCAT in 2019 (my first year trying) where I
scored 3250 (99th+ Percentile - specifically Top 0.21%). I also scored a
99.80 ATAR in my 2019 HSC. From this - I received interviews to
ALL Medicine universities I tried out for
(WSU + UNSW + Monash + UoA + UON + Curtin). I officially joined
WSU Medicine before moving to
UNSW Medicine.
In my spare time -
I love volunteering (I am in a multitude of UNSW Volunteering Programs – including the team that runs the prestigious UNSW O-Week). For more casual activities I love cooking up a
hearty meal such as a
bowl of ramen – maybe a bit of singing on the side
(though I am terrible) or even some
basketball.
I am a
HIGHLY experienced and
headline personalised specialist educator for the UCAT exam. I have taught the exam
since its inception in Australia in 2019 offering
reliable + trusted + efficient education. Out of all students -
I carry one of the most (if not the most) qualifications + experience + expertise + results in the UCAT examination. From what I have researched – I am
one of only two tutors in the
entirety of Australia to be an
official ambassador of Medify AUS/UK (the
most trusted and successful UCAT preparation program – which one in two students use).
That is why you should choose me. I offer the best – to make you the best.Vision:My vision for my students is to
not only inspire - however also
guide in the
best way I can towards their success in the UCAT and in fact
beyond life.
I believe also that one does not need to sacrifice their social and emotional life for success in Medicine. Let me get you into Medicine
while making you the person you want to be and should be going into the future.
Beyond a teacher - I consider my students as my close friends. We can talk about
life + hobbies or even have introspective chats about friendships and the world. You are my
friend above all – and with that I will
personally dedicate myself entirely to your success as a student and as a person in life. I will
care deeply and strive for the
best for you – both
inside and outside the classroom.
Why Even Start Tutoring For The UCAT?In order to be willing to
fully commit yourself for the
intensity that UCAT training can provide – you need to understand as to
why it is even worth going into it in the first place. To discipline
yourself to ‘do’ – you must understand the ‘why’.
Tutoring for the UCAT is undeniably paramount to building your success in the path of getting into Medicine. From the
extreme experience that I have had in
studying for the UCAT in addition to the
multiple years of teaching completed, I have found that though the
UCAT examination is extraordinarily vicious – it is an exam that
one can prepare for and achieve phenomenal improvements over time. If the story previously did not convince you – I can speak from
my own efforts where I started off with
only getting half marks for sections including Verbal Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning (around 600) – then getting scores of
740 and 860 in the UCAT examination and my overall score of 3250 . I started off
terrible – though with
long work I improved myself massively. The grind was
not easy – I spent
a year toiling on the UCAT with an average of an hour a day of effort. I even
studied on my vacations to the Gold Coast and Vietnam. I pushed
through my trials and still tried to get studying done during the period. It is a difficult climb.
Not only can tutoring
improve you in general for your own personal self – it is
one of the only tools to maximise your success against your competitors. The UCAT is an examination that
has been here for four years now. Your competitors
include not only high school students who have access to greater resources and tips – however also
those who have failed once/twice/thrice/four times and have
garnered extraordinary experience, resolve and resources.
Understand the difficulty you are up against. Understand that the
requirement for the 90th percentile (the
bare minimum to
have a chance for most Medicine universities) has went
from a score of 2850 in 2019 to 2980 in 2022 – an increase by 130 points. Now you will need to
achieve around 75% of ALL gruelling questions to have a fighting chance. Think you can do
this without guidance? Please do also understand the
consequences of failing – an
entire year of waiting either at
home or in an
unfulfilling university degree to
wait for the next UCAT cycle.
You are up against people who are
just as desperate to avoid this - maybe more.
That is why you should do UCAT training.
Structure: Convinced as to why you should start? Time to discuss the lesson structure.
If these are the questions that you have asked about the UCAT Examination:
- How can I stay accountable and get myself into a routine for the UCAT?
- How can I even do Verbal Reasoning – the texts are way too long! What should be my approach to reading the texts for Verbal Reasoning?
- How can I stop running out of time for each section?
- How do you even do those Yes/No Questions in Decision Making – they are so long and incomprehensible!
- How do you even do those Venn Diagram questions in Decision Making?
- How can anyone tell what is the Best Argument for those Decision Making questions?
- How can you even do the Quantitative Reasoning questions when Maths is your weak point?
- How can you use the calculator for Quantitative Reasoning – it is so difficult to use!
- How do you read through those very long Quantitative Reasoning tables?
- Do I really need to finish every single question for the UCAT?
- What score do I need for my ATAR/GPA/UCAT to get into Medicine?
- The Abstract Reasoning puzzles make absolutely zero sense – what is the best way to approach doing them?
- How do you have any idea what is the best answer to choose for Situational Judgement?
Absolutely no fear - they will be answered
easily, rapidly and comprehensibly in my
state-of-the-art UCAT program. These are
questions that have been asked many times and
thought about over in absolute depth within my long experience of teaching the UCAT examination. Did I not say I was
teaching from the absolute start? My lessons are
highly structured and of the highest quality –
formed and
perfected after
years of scrutiny from my vast experience of teaching.
Scientifically-approved evidence-based approaches are an
absolute bare minimum requirement for my program. It is an
intensive and
highly thorough fifteen-twenty lesson program (tailored to your needs) which
aims to detail and teach
every single possible thing you can learn regarding the UCAT. I want you to
understand it to the level that you can even teach yourself – and others.
In each
individual lesson, I teach
two UCAT sections a week. They are
grouped into pairs and
alternated with each other so the entire range is taught across the two weeks. I have learned from
personal teaching experience that completing four sections in a single lesson explores each topic far too superficially to be useful. It also
impacts memorisation by being
too overwhelming for the student.
The lessons are taught through a
highly crafted PowerPoint presentation which contains
extraordinarily valuable and personally tried and verified theory in addition to
questions given immediately after to official UCAT timing to reinforce your learning and pacing. Before the PowerPoint, I give a
live-marked and explained quiz to reinforce the theory from the previous week and improve memorisation. This is
spaced repetition – a highly accepted
evidence-based learning method. After the lesson,
you are not done. There
will be a marked homework booklet distributed to all students with extra questions to reinforce learning – more spaced repetition. I use the
best teaching methods because
I want you to be the best. Of course –
feel free to ask any questions you want during the lesson and I am happy to stop and answer.
My help extends far beyond our time together in the lesson. At
any moment – you can send me
a direct message with
any questions that you have regarding the UCAT whether it is about a question or just asking for general advice. You can also
ask me for tips on getting into Medicine in general – maybe about the interview process. Perhaps you wanted to just debate with me about how getting sturdy is ‘stupid’ –
anything you want. With all this - expect
a response in a few hours at the latest (unless you messaged me in the
middle of the night – I will hopefully be sleeping then).
Remember – I consider my students to be my close friends. The way I see it – I am just doing the bare minimum.
Did I also mention that I offer an active and vibrant community where all notes and bonus resources are posted – with discussions also able to be had amongst all of my students for the best camaraderie and facilitated growth? This is an
online community that I am proud of – it is in
my philosophy that students need to assist and grow each other rather than compete. Remember -
the lone wolf dies alone.
Do not go for the
abundance of tutors who will just
load up random questions they found in the minute before the lesson. Go with a tutor who
actually CARES for their students and
structures a tried + tested + highly successful program with pre- and post-class activities. The UCAT examination is a
trying step in the path of Medicine. and
failure will cost you at minimum a painful year sitting + studying and waiting.
Make SURE you choose your tutor
well.
Only go for the best.

Hi there! My name is Phillip and I have just graduated from Sydney Boys High School, having just finished my HSC exam. My UCAT exam was completed in July, in which I obtained a score of 3250, in the 99th Percentile (top 1%). In addition, I have received an ATAR of 99.80.
From my UCAT score and ATAR, I have received Medicine Interviews from the University of New South Wales, Western Sydney University, University of Adelaide and the University of Newcastle. I am currently attending at the Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine Program at the University of New South Wales. I have had significant experience in tutoring, having participated in teaching initiatives in school, and tutoring numerous other students in Mathematics and English.
Why Prepare Now?
Though the UCAT seems like another ordinary test, the skills in each section are vastly different from textbook learning, requiring intuition and general aptitude. These abilities are not quickly learned over a few weeks, but instead over many months of repeated practice for familiarity, beginning with the right approach to be further applied fluently in an exam.
Even my own preparation for my UCAT exam was not done over a few weeks, but instead over many months of consistent practice to perfect my exam technique. I also had some luck – as a child, I was interested in logic puzzles and numerical games, which developed skills paramount in my UCAT exam over many years. Therefore, UCAT Tutoring must be begun ASAP, to instil intuition and skills which will maximise exam performance.
Why Learn From Me?
In addition to scoring in the highest percentile in the UCAT (99th percentile), I have many efficient approaches to maximise a student’s exam score. Furthermore, as one of the very few students with first-hand experience of this new exam, I have numerous resources that I have obtained from the official UCAT test itself. I also have personal resources combined with those of other top scorers to provide material accurately mirroring the exam. This cannot be offered by other older tutors and centres, them having no first-hand experience or knowledge of the resources or exam itself.
Furthermore, my teaching is unique to the generic style of other tutors and centres. My lessons will teach intuitive approaches to solving questions with techniques that I have personally achieved success with. I will also provide logic and numerical puzzles utilised in my childhood to develop my intuition and aptitude for the test. My lesson will be structured from what I have found to be successful throughout school and tutoring.
Most importantly, my students’ success comes first. As a student myself, I understand that students may not ask questions to not disrupt the class or embarrass themselves. Therefore, students can message me with questions anytime with a fast reply. Students can stay back after and ask me any extra questions, or place them in an anonymous box.
Lesson Structure (2hr 30 min. Bilateral teaching, with two sections taught a week. Verbal Reasoning and Decision Making is alternated with Quantitative Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning in the other week).
First 15 minutes: Quiz with questions from all sections with real UCAT timing, marked for students to keep.
Next 15: Quiz explanation with answers and detailed solutions.
Next 50: Verbal Reasoning/Quantitative Reasoning. Techniques will be taught over many lessons, with exam-like questions being provided and explained, referencing the techniques taught and their application in the question. Various question types will be repeated to ensure optimal learning, with extra time for intuitive learning.
Next 10: Break.
Next 50: Decision Making/Abstract Reasoning.
Next 10: Situational Judgement.
Times may vary depending on student requests and explanation times.
