I achieved a 99.90 ATAR and 3210 UCAT (97th percentile) and am currently studying a Doctor of Medicine at Monash University. Over the past few years, I’ve worked with students across academics, study skills, UCAT preparation, medical interviews and university entry.

Alongside my own tutoring, I work with the team at Real Knowledge Academy, bringing together high-achieving tutors and mentors from backgrounds including medicine, engineering, science and other competitive university pathways.

The biggest thing we try to do differently is make tutoring about more than the lesson itself.

A student might come to us for Maths, Chemistry or Biology, but often the bigger challenge is knowing how to study properly, how to organise a busy week, how to prepare for exams, how to respond after a disappointing result and how to stay consistent across the year.

That’s why mentoring is such a big part of what we do.

We work with students on:
- subject knowledge and exam technique
- study systems and time management
- accountability and consistency
- assessment and exam preparation
- confidence and motivation
- balancing academics with sport, leadership and extracurriculars
- ATAR and university pathway planning
- UCAT and medical interview preparation

Some of our students are looking to build their foundations and confidence. Others are aiming for 99+ ATARs, medicine and highly competitive university courses. The approach is different for every student, but the goal is the same: helping them become more capable and independent rather than simply relying on a tutor each week.

A focus on more than just academics:

I’ve always believed that doing well at school shouldn’t mean giving up everything outside it. Alongside academics, I’ve been involved in school leadership, surf lifesaving, university sport, consulting and medical student organisations, including serving as a Prefect at Brisbane Grammar School.

Those experiences have shaped the way I mentor students. Academics matter, but so do communication, confidence, leadership, resilience and learning how to manage several commitments at once.

Our tutors at RKA bring their own experiences as well, which means students can learn from people who have recently navigated many of the same challenges themselves.

Medicine Entry:

For students interested in medicine, we also support the journey beyond school subjects.

I achieved a 3210 UCAT, a 7/7 medical interview success rate, and received medicine offers from several Australian universities. Through RKA, our team of medical students have now supported 50+ students into medicine, with students receiving guidance across academics, UCAT, interviews and the broader admissions process.

Rather than treating these as completely separate hurdles, we help students understand the overall pathway and what they should be focusing on at each stage.

The goal

Whether a student wants to improve from a C to an A, become more organised, aim for a 99+ ATAR or eventually study medicine, we want them to feel like they have a team of people behind them.

Tutoring provides the academic support. Mentoring helps students work out what to do with it.

That combination is what I try to bring to every student I work with, and what we aim to provide more broadly through RKA.

Experience

I’ve spent the past few years tutoring and mentoring students across high school academics, UCAT, medical interviews and university entry. Through Real Knowledge Academy, I now work alongside a team of high-achieving tutors and mentors supporting students across a range of subjects, year levels and goals.

A big focus for us is making tutoring about more than just improving marks. We want students to have people around them who can help with study habits, organisation, motivation, exam preparation and the ups and downs that come with school. For students aiming higher, that can also mean guidance around competitive university courses, medicine, scholarships and extracurricular opportunities.

The mentoring side is something I particularly enjoy. Having balanced academics with leadership, sport, lifesaving and other commitments myself, I know that doing well at school is rarely just about knowing the content. A lot of it comes down to learning how to manage your time, respond to setbacks, stay consistent and work towards something over a longer period.

That idea carries across RKA more broadly. Our tutors come from a range of backgrounds and have achieved highly across academics, medicine, engineering, science and other fields. Students therefore aren’t limited to one person’s experience, they can be surrounded by tutors and mentors who have taken different pathways and can support them in different areas.

For students interested in medicine, we also provide support across the broader journey, from senior-school academics and UCAT through to interviews and university applications. The goal is to make that process feel much less confusing and give students access to people who have recently gone through it themselves.

Outside of academics, I’ve been involved in a range of leadership and extracurricular activities, including serving as a Prefect at Brisbane Grammar School, surf lifesaving, university sport, consulting and medical student organisations. These experiences have been just as important in shaping how I approach mentoring as my academic results.

Through Real Knowledge Academy, I also work closely with a wider team of high-performing tutors and mentors. Collectively, we bring experience across high-level academics, medicine entry, university pathways, leadership and extracurricular development.

For me, tutoring is ultimately about helping students make the most of their time at school: not just getting a better result in one subject, but becoming more confident, capable and independent in the process.
