Hey there, I’m Shree! I’m a student currently in the 1st year of my double degree with Bachelor of Advanced Computing (Research & Development) (Honours) and Bachelor of Medical Science at the ANU. The R&D program is an elite, research-focused stream, designed for high-performing students. I graduated from Burgmann Anglican School in 2025, with an ATAR of 98.45.

[ TUTORING / STUDY APPROACH ]

I would classify myself as someone who initially takes time to grasp completely new concepts, especially when they are unlike anything I’ve ever encountered before. Throughout the entirety of Year 11 & 12, I discovered that the best way for me to learn is by starting from the fundamentals for any new topic. I make sure that I thoroughly understand every aspect of a topic before moving on to advanced material.

If I don’t have a solid foundation, extension work becomes much harder. Once I’ve mastered the fundamentals, tackling advanced material becomes faster and easier, because I no longer need to revisit earlier content. This approach was my main strategy in Year 12, and it took me all of Year 11 to realise it. As a result, I achieved much stronger results in Year 12 which heavily contributed to my final ATAR of 98.45.

Even when I didn’t have time to fully extend myself before a test, having strong fundamentals allowed me to perform exceptionally well. This was particularly evident when I topped all four calculus tests in Specialist Methods consecutively, earning the highest unit score in my Year 12 cohort for this subject. My solid grasp of fundamentals eliminated small mistakes in tests, and allowed me to tackle challenging questions in tests that I hadn’t seen before.

This study approach also helped me significantly in Computer Science. In Burgmann, the Year 11 & 12 I.T. streams focused more on a student’s ability to synthesis and communicate their understanding of an algorithm or a new topic, rather than solely on programming skills. Strong fundamentals were extremely beneficial in this context. By applying this approach, I topped all four semesters, ranked 1st overall in the cohort throughout Year 11 and 12 . The projects I submitted during this time also excelled in various competitions (read below in Qualifications!).

Experience

I graduated Telugu Language School in Year 8 - making me a part of the first batch of Telugu graduates in the ACT (2021). Telugu is a South-Indian language that is my mother tongue. In 2022 & 2023, I volunteered as a teaching-assistant to teach kids how to speak, read, and write in Telugu, along with educating them about Telugu culture, traditions, and histories. This entailed offering kids who were struggling in class one-on-one targeted tutoring. I assessed what each child was struggling with, and slowed down the teaching process, and specifically focusing on areas that they were finding challenging. This meant that I was able to provide personalised lessons for the specific student's needs.
