Experienced English+ tutoring | Distinguished humanities academic
Sydney tutor in English, English Literature, Essay Writing, German, History, Music Theory, Philosophy, Society and Culture
Hi, my name is Will Taylor. I am an academic with a
Master of Arts (Research) currently working at UNSW, and I am offering tutoring services in
high school English and History (of all levels), up to
tertiary-level German and Philosophy, and many other Humanities-based subjects, as well.
I have a
great passion for these particular subjects, have been teaching them for over 7 years, have received
University-level awards and qualifications for each, and would love to
share my know-how with you—particularly if you are preparing for the HSC!
My main
tutoring qualifications lie in my academic achievements at University:
- I graduated from UNSW with
First-Class Honours and the University Medal in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy/German Studies) and a
High Distinction (HD) average.
- I was also the recipient of both the Douglas McCallum award for
Best Performance in Philosophy (2015) and the Australian-German Chamber's Goethe Prize for
Best Performance in German Studies (2016).
- Following my undergraduate, I was granted the Fred Katz scholarship to complete my Honours thesis in philosophy, for which I was awarded the
University Medal—the highest undergraduate distinction.
- And I have also completed my
Masters by Research (2022) with a thesis in the history of ancient philosophy, have taught and done editing work as a Casual Academic at UNSW, and am now
completing my PhD.
In my teaching, I like to stress three things: 1) as a philosopher—with one foot in English and the humanities, the other in science, logic, maths—I try to
make the mandatory subject of English more enjoyable/relatable for those who don't tend towards the subject naturally; 2) I fit my students out with the
academic skills they will to succeed not only in the HSC but also in their time at university; and 3) I seek to pair
high expectations with a
sensitivity to the needs/background of each student—we want good marks, of course; but we want this paired with a good state of mental health, as well.
So, if you want a tutor for high school English and History who’s
well versed in academic research and writing skills, please do inquire, and we'll see if we can make our schedules harmonise!
