I am a teacher with over 40 years experience. I am passionate, capable, friendly and supportive. 2019 was my last year of teaching in an ongoing capacity. From 2020, I have been doing Casual Relief Teaching and Tutoring, both privately and through the DET Tutor Learning Initiative.

I taught Year 12 Maths Methods in 2019, the first time after a long break from the subject, and totally enjoyed it.

From 2020 to 2025 I have tutored students in Year 11 and 12 Methods, Year 11 and 12 General Maths, Year 11 and 12 IB Applications and Interpretations and Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 Maths.

I was an Assistant Principal in a secondary school for 9 years, but have always taught during that time.

In 2019 I supported a research project for Pivot education. I was asked for my input as my student survey results placed me in the top 100 maths teachers in Australia.

I feel that now is the time to put my efforts into helping students who really want to do their best in Maths, to achieve the best possible results that they can. I have always put a great deal of effort into planning my lessons for school and would do the same for my tutoring sessions. Lessons would have a clear goal and would include time for assessment and reflection. I would be very happy to liaise with teachers if required.

I am available to tutor at my home in Geelong West, but could also travel to another location. I am contactable by phone or email, and am also be willing to assist students via Zoom. I have used online platforms extensively, where remote tutoring is required for a range of reasons.

Experience

In 2019, my final year of teaching, with 40+ years experience, I taught Year 12 Maths Methods. During that year, I tutored my class in small groups and one on one in addition to their class time. This gave me a passion for tutoring. I have taught every level and Maths subject in Secondary School, including VCAL numeracy, Further/General Maths, Specialist Maths and Maths Methods. I have a focus on making maths enjoyable, with understanding my major focus. Good teaching, and good tutoring, is all about knowing where students are at and moving them on from there. I have a wide range of skills to formatively assess student knowledge and understanding, and to identify student misconceptions.
In 2020 I began one on one tutoring. I have doing up to 13 hours a week of tutoring and have enjoyed it immensely. I have tutored students in Year 12 VCE Maths Methods, Further/General Maths, Year 11 General and Methods, Year 11 and 12 IB Maths, and Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 Maths.

Qualifications

Diploma of Education (Primary) Bachelor of Education (Secondary) Maths to Year 12 and Science to Year 10.

Rates

Add $5 for every 10 km I need to travel from Geelong West to tutor students in their own homes.
