IB 42 (99.10 ATAR) & ANU Tutor - Maths & Physics Tutoring
Canberra tutor in Algebra, Calculus, Further Maths, Geometry, Maths, Maths Methods, Maths Specialist, Physics
I am currently an honours (4th) year student at the ANU studying PhB Science, researching trapped-ion quantum computing with a GPA of 6.83/7. As part of the PhB, I have carried out research projects in fluid dynamics, satellite communications, applications of lasers in ultracold helium experiments, simulating turbulence in astrophysical gas clouds and trapped ion quantum computing. In particular, I have published my turbulence research in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society as a first author (see the following if interested, https://doi.org/10.1093/mnras/stag461).
From my 4 years of experience, I have noted that students achieve the biggest improvements when they consistently use past IB paper questions to guide their study and as such, I place heavy emphasis on using these questions to teach content and exam technique in my lessons. Further, this allows my students to gain a strong understanding of both the content and the precise ways in which it is examined, leading to a mastery of the course. I am flexible with my hours and typically conduct my lessons 1-on-1 using Zoom or in person in ANU campus libraries.
My specialisation is with the IB, having completed both Physics HL and Math AA HL with scores that were 19 and 13 points above the boundary for a 7, respectively. I have evidently mastered the content of the courses and I am very capable of mentoring my students to achieve such results having tutored many students over the past 3 years to the same level. Further, I am also very familiar with all aspects of assessment having achieved a 7 in all assessment components, and can also assist with internal assessments having scored 23/24 for my Physics HL IA and 18/20 for my Math HL IA.
Since my second year of university, I have been employed by the ANU as a tutor for PHYS1001 (Foundations of Physics), PHYS3102 (Advanced Electromagnetism) and a lab demonstrator for PHYS1101 (PHYS1101), PHYS1201 (Physics 2) and PHYS2016 (Electromagnetism). In these role, I mark weekly logbooks and lab reports, which are analogous to the internal assessment that IB students complete. I also assist students with their lab practicals and answer theory questions during workshops/tutorials.
