Small Wins Private Tutoring
Hello everyone My name is Amy. I am a resigned primary school teacher looking to continue my passion in teaching in a different way. I offer private one on one lessons in person in Calamvale at my residence.
I create my own lessons and provide resources like books and worksheets. If I have ideas for extra resources that will assist your child’s needs I will ask for reimbursement if money is involved and this will either be something we use during lessons or something to use at home for reinforcement.
My lessons are a mix of hands on and visual which I adapt to the learning style of your child. I love incorporating games into their learning and finding fun ways to learn. Each lesson you will be provided with a summary of how they went. You will also be recommended any homework to complete at home to reinforce learning. This homework is usually an independent activity and the child shouldn’t need too much extra help. Life gets busy so no necessity to complete the homework this is optional.
I have taught in varying schools with special education being my major so I am familiar with differentiating to the students needs. I like to focus on small wins and what the student is capable of successfully completing. I never want any student to feel like they can’t accomplish a task so every task is at their level.
I charge $40 per hour and teach anywhere from pre-prep to year 8. I offer diagnostic testing to observe what your child already knows, what are their strengths as well as what areas will need some growth on their first lesson. I teach any subject (English, maths, history, science). I can follow what they’re learning in class or I can build on missing gaps in their education. I have an exemption blue card due to my teacher registration and can provide a copy of my licence.

Experience
I am passionate about helping every student enjoy school. I graduated from a Bachelor of Education majoring in Special Needs at Griffith University in 2021. Since then I have taught in both Mainstream and Special Needs Schools. Both have instilled a passion to teach and help every student thrive at their ability level rather than just their grade level.
My passion for pursuing a career in education started when I was in grade 7 when this grade was still considered primary years. Prior to this I came to school unhappy. I did not enjoy school and thought it was a waste of time. I found it hard to engage with the lessons and this was reflected in my borderline passes. Grade 7 was my turning point. I was blessed with a wonderful teacher. She quickly locked onto me and made sure that I understood the lesson that day. If I had not understood, she worked with me or partnered me up and provided another way of explaining the content so that I could understand. She was a young teacher but she made me feel so empowered. This spark has led me on the path towards being just like her; reigniting the spark for learning in others.
