English, History and Society and Culture Tutor

Sydney tutor in Acting, Creative Writing, English, English Language, English Literature, History, Reading, Society and Culture, Visual Arts

Hi there! My name is Grace and I am a Second year Law student in Sydney, studying a Bachelor of Arts/Law. I am free Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday afternoons from 4pm-9pm and free all day on Saturday and Sunday. Students and parents can contact me via my personal phone number or email. I tutor most of my students online as it is flexible with my University schedule. If a student requires further assistance and would like sessions to be conducted in person, I would prefer the lessons to take place at my home or at a public library.

My experience in tutoring began towards the end of Year 11 into Year 12. I was a peer tutor for my classmates. I would look over their essays and provide further assistance on how to improve their responses in preparation for the Trials and the HSC. This inspired me to continue tutoring others to share my insight as a recent graduate. I achieved a Band 6 in English Advanced, Ancient History, Society and Culture, Visual Arts and an E4 in History Extension, respectfully. I also achieved a high Band 5 in Modern History. In year 12 I achieved 1st place in Ancient History and maintained a high rank throughout my other subjects.

I enjoy tutoring students because it is a rewarding experience seeing them grow in their academic studies. I try my best to find out student's niche interests and accommodate our lessons to revolve around those personal interests in order for the lessons to appear far more engaging for the student. My level of expertise varies from each year. I am capable of tutoring students from years 7-10 for predominately English, History and CAPA subjects (Visual Arts and Drama). I am best equipped for students entering year 11 and 12 for all levels of English and HSIE subjects.

Each lesson varies for each student. For 1 hour lessons, I try to condense the lessons to focus on clarification and discussions. Usually if I have noticed a common error that a student makes in relation to their essay writing for example, I try to provide documents that break down the structure of an English essay in simpler terms. I constantly provide worksheets, example essays and general notes for students to review and use as guidance for their coursework. Occasionally, I assign students additional work that correlates with classwork that serve as beneficial towards their academic growth.

Many students struggle in understanding what teachers are looking for and therefore may doubt their capabilities in achieving high marks. I try to assist students to realising their potential! If you or someone you know would like a tutor for English or any HSIE subject don't hesitate to reach out!

Experience

I have been tutoring since the end of December. However, previous to this, I mainly did peer tutoring during year 11 and 12 which assisted me in familiarising myself with the general HSC marking criteria. I currently tutor students for English, including English year 7-10, English Standard and Advanced year 11-12. I have many resources that assist my students to develop their writing and comprehension skills especially under exam conditions as this is where the majority of students struggle with.

Qualifications

I currently have a WWCC and received a band 6 in Ancient History, Visual Arts, English Advanced, Society and Culture and an E4 in History Extension, respectively.

Rates

I charge $50 for online sessions and $60 for in person sessions, however this may vary depending on the distance of the student. If the student requires further editing or comments on their work outside of our lessons, I charge $25 (if it takes up to more than an hour this may vary to as I try to provide as much extensive feedback as possible).
