Hi, I’m Lucas Chen, an experienced English and Maths tutor with five years of tutoring experience, having taught more than 30 students through personalised one-on-one lessons.

I graduated from North Sydney Boys High School in 2024 with a 99.10 ATAR. My HSC results includes:

95 in English Advanced
97 in Maths Extension 1
91 in Maths Extension 2

I am currently studying Law and Finance at the University of New South Wales.

I help students build confidence, improve their results and develop stronger study habits. My lessons are patient, structured and tailored to each student’s needs. I focus on identifying gaps, explaining difficult concepts clearly and giving students practical strategies they can use in class, homework and exams.

I have also taught in centre-based environments, including New Path Education and Nexus Education, where I delivered structured lessons, ran small-group classes and taught independently to up to 18 concurrent students. I am also the Founder of Mint Education, a Sydney tutoring centre specialising in Selective Test preparation for Years 4-6. Mint offers structured small-group classes across Reading, Writing, Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking Skills, alongside mock exams and online resources. For primary students who prefer individual support, I also continue to offer one-on-one tutoring privately.

For English, I help students with paragraph structure, essay writing, text analysis, expression and exam technique. For Maths, I focus on clear step-by-step explanations, worked examples, problem-solving methods and targeted practice.

A typical lesson includes:
1) A quick check-in on homework, schoolwork or upcoming assessments
2) Clear explanation of the topic or skill
3) Guided practice to fix misunderstandings early
4) Independent practice to build confidence
5) Targeted feedback and next steps for improvement

I also create tailored worksheets, notes and practice sets for my students, drawing from over 200 pages of materials I have developed over the years.

I am fully fluent in Mandarin, which allows me to communicate clearly with Mandarin-speaking parents about their child’s progress, lesson focus and areas for improvement.

I am available on weekday afternoons and weekends. Lessons can take place at my home in Epping, at the student’s home within a reasonable distance, or at local libraries such as Epping Library or Macquarie Library.

The best way to contact me for one-on-one tutoring is by phone on 0487 747 838.
