Sydney tutor in Clarinet, Music Theory

Hi, I’m Harrison, a clarinet tutor based in Northmead, offering both online and in-person lessons for beginner and intermediate school-level students.

I began learning the clarinet in primary school and have several years of experience performing in school, community, and youth ensembles. I have completed AMEB Grade 6 Clarinet and am currently preparing for Grade 8, and I am studying Music 2 as part of my HSC. Through my ensemble experience, I understand the demands of school band programs and help students develop strong fundamentals and confidence in their playing.

I enjoy tutoring because I like helping students understand how to practise effectively, not just what to play. My lessons are structured and supportive, focusing on tone, technique, reading skills, and band repertoire, while also being adapted to each student’s level and goals.

Lessons are typically structured with:
• warm-ups and tone development
• technical work (scales, articulation, finger coordination)
• band or solo repertoire
• clear practice goals for the week

I provide guidance on practice routines and can supply worksheets or exercises where helpful. Students are encouraged to bring any school band music or materials they are currently working on.

Availability:
Weekday afternoons and weekends (flexible – please enquire)

Online (Google Meet) or in-person (Northmead)

Levels taught:
Beginner and Intermediate (primary and junior high school students)

Experience

I currently tutor clarinet students at beginner and intermediate school level, working with both online and in-person lessons. I focus on helping students improve tone, technique, reading skills, and confidence, particularly in relation to school band repertoire. I aim to provide clear lesson structure and practical guidance so students know exactly what to practise between lessons.

Qualifications

I began learning the clarinet in primary school and have several years of experience performing in school, community, and youth ensembles. I have been a member of ensembles such as the Hills Community Concert Band, Greater Western Sydney Concert Band, and Greater Western Sydney Orchestra, with performances at venues including the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Town Hall.

I have also performed with the Sydney Wind Orchestra and was later accepted into the Sydney Wind Ensemble. In addition, I attended NSW State Band Camps and have completed AMEB Grade 6 Clarinet, and am currently preparing for Grade 8. I am also completing the NESA Music 2 course as part of my HSC studies.
