Hi, I'm Hamdy. I am a PhD-qualified Mechanical Engineer and experienced educator with more than 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience across high school, undergraduate and postgraduate education, including more than 10 years teaching engineering students at the University of Sydney.

I have extensive experience teaching Mathematics to high school students as well as university-level Mathematics, Engineering and related subjects. My university teaching experience includes Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Thermal Engineering, Heat Transfer, Combustion, Energy Systems and other Mechanical Engineering subjects. I have also provided private tutoring to students from the University of Sydney, UNSW, UTS, Western Sydney University and Macquarie University.

My strength as a tutor comes from combining strong technical knowledge with extensive teaching experience and the ability to explain difficult concepts clearly to students with different levels of preparation and confidence. I focus on helping students understand the principles behind the equations and methods rather than simply memorising procedures.

I have more than 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience across high school, undergraduate and postgraduate education. For more than 10 years, I have worked as a casual academic at the University of Sydney, teaching and supporting students across a wide range of engineering subjects.

My university teaching experience includes Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Thermal Engineering, Heat Transfer, Power Plant Technology, Energy Resources, Combustion and other Mechanical Engineering subjects. I have taught students from Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Aerospace, Mechatronics, Biomedical and Chemical Engineering backgrounds.

In addition to university teaching, I have extensive experience providing private tutoring to students from the University of Sydney, UNSW, UTS, Western Sydney University and Macquarie University. I have also worked with students studying outside Australia, adapting my teaching to different academic backgrounds and curricula.

I have extensive experience teaching Mathematics to high school students and have worked as a high school Mathematics teacher at a highly regarded independent school in Western Sydney. I have supported students across different levels, from those strengthening their mathematical foundations to students preparing for senior Mathematics, assessments and examinations.

My tutoring approach is based on understanding rather than memorisation. I identify the areas where a student is struggling, explain the underlying concepts clearly and then work through examples and problems step by step. I adapt my approach to the student's level, pace and goals while encouraging students to ask questions, think critically and gradually become more independent learners.

Over more than two decades, I have helped hundreds of students overcome challenging subjects, strengthen gaps in their knowledge and develop confidence in their abilities. One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching for me is seeing a student move from uncertainty or frustration to being able to approach challenging problems independently and with confidence.

I also have recent first-hand experience with English-language study and standardised English proficiency testing. I achieved an IELTS Academic Overall Band 8.0, with 8.5 in Listening, 8.0 in Reading and 8.5 in Speaking. This experience allows me to provide practical support with IELTS preparation, academic English and developing confidence in English-language study.

Qualifications

I hold a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and PhD in Mechanical Engineering. My PhD was awarded in 2023 and was jointly supervised with the University of Sydney.

My academic and research background has given me extensive expertise in Mechanical Engineering, particularly in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, combustion, energy systems and related engineering disciplines. My PhD research focused on combustion, energy and the formation of nanoparticles in combustion flames.
