Hey there! My name is Hamish Hunter, and I recently graduated from Newington College in 2025, where I completed the HSC with an ATAR of 98.80.

In Year 10, I was ranked 122nd in a cohort of 265 students for English. At the time, essay writing felt vague, unpredictable and generally overwhelming - impeding my ability to translate ideas into pieces which actually scored well. That changed in Year 11 when I began refining a more deliberate, rubric-driven methodology to my writing, resulting in my ranking of 1st in a Year 12 cohort of 179 students. More importantly, it provided me with a clear understanding or what HSC markers truly look for - and how to deliver it consistently.

These experiences shaped the way I teach, developing a strong appreciation for disciplined preparation, clear conceptual understanding, and thoughtful exam technique. I am deeply committed to helping students build both confidence and academic precision whilst balancing co-curricular pursuits, tailoring my approach to ensure clarity and genuine mastery of content.

I'm particularly conscious of how demanding English and other content-heavy writing subjects may appear, especially when progress seems to stagnate. I aim to resolve such uncertainties by teaching the key differentiators which enable students to present themselves as highly capable writers, equipping them with the foundational skills to write effectively under timed exam conditions, using structured, reproducible frameworks that engender top results.

Experience
