Hi, I’m Yuki, a Quantitative Finance student at ANU.

A funny thing about me is that I actually used to hate maths.

When I was younger, maths was probably my least favourite subject. I never understood why we were learning half the things we learned, and honestly, I spent a lot of time staring at questions hoping the answer would magically appear.

Things started to change when I stopped trying to memorise everything and started looking for the logic behind it. Once I understood how ideas connected together, maths became a lot less scary—and surprisingly, even enjoyable.

Because of that experience, I really enjoy helping students who feel stuck, frustrated, or convinced they’re “just bad at maths”. I’ve been there myself.

My goal isn’t just to help students get through homework or prepare for exams. I want them to understand what’s actually going on behind the formulas, build confidence in their own abilities, and maybe even start enjoying maths a little more than they expected.

I’m currently studying Quantitative Finance at ANU, where maths and statistics are a big part of my degree. I teach students from Years 7–12 and can explain concepts in either English or Mandarin.

Although I am new to formal tutoring, my own learning journey has shaped the way I approach teaching.

Growing up, mathematics was not always my strongest subject. For many years I found it difficult and often struggled with confidence. Everything changed when I discovered more effective learning methods and began focusing on understanding the logic behind mathematical concepts rather than simply memorising formulas.

This experience taught me that many students are capable of succeeding in maths when they are given the right guidance and support. As a result, my goal is not only to help students solve questions and improve their grades, but also to help them understand the reasoning behind mathematics and how it applies to the real world.

I enjoy sharing the study strategies and learning techniques that helped me improve, while encouraging students to build confidence, think independently, and develop a genuine understanding of the subject.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Finance (Quantitative Finance), Australian National University (ANU)

• Strong background in Mathematics, Statistics and Finance

• Fluent in English and Mandarin

• Currently preparing for the CFA Level I examination

• Available for online and face-to-face tutoring in Canberra
