Online undergraduate mathematics, statistics and computing tutor
Eastern Victoria tutor in Algebra, Calculus, Computing, General Science, Maths, Physics, Programming, Statistics, Study Skills, Linux, Git, LaTeX, C, R
I have extensive experience tutoring undergraduate and postgraduate mathematics and statistics, as well as computational topics such as Linux command line, programming, and version control with Git. I have an Honours degree in Mathematics & Statistics from the University of Melbourne. My specialization was in applied mathematics and probability theory. My honours thesis developed a stochastic model of pandemic evolution which contributed to a publication in the Journal of Mathematical Biology.
In addition to my prior academic background, more recently I have a decade of experience as a DevOps and systems engineer focusing on Linux-based OpenStack and HPC platforms. I have expert knowledge in Linux scripting/programming, monitoring, networking and storage at global production scale.
I'm primarily an online tutor. I'll provide a Zoom or Proton Meet link for our sessions. Please ensure you have good internet, webcam and audio, including headphones to minimize echo, as I will still invoice you for my time if you have preventable technical issues. (No charge if the issues are on my side.)
Although online is default, I may be willing to attend in-person sessions if my travel time, costs and accommodation needs are compensated. You might like this option if you want full-day or multi-day sessions with groups of people.
I am neurodiversity-positive, with some prior understanding of autistic and ADHD needs, so please let me know if you require specific accommodations. Note that I only teach adults, and I may ask you to provide id if there is any doubt.
My tutoring style works best if you work independently before our sessions, so that you can come prepared with a list of topics or problems where you would like more feedback or support. I would then engage with your questions in a collaborative mode, in which I would model strategies you can use, rather than putting on a show of having all the answers up front. If you instead prefer that I do formal presentations, note that I charge extra for preparation time.
Note that I won't have access to the latest lecture slides, problem booklets or textbooks used in your course, although I may still have some old material from University of Melbourne subjects. If you need me to tutor to the content of a particular subject, I can provide a shared drive where you can upload relevant files (pdf preferred.)
I welcome questions about assessments, but have a policy of not directly contributing to assessment content. In other words, I can help you analyse an assessment task to pinpoint which techniques you can apply; I can help you with other problems which are similar-ish to the assessment; and I can give informal verbal feedback on your assessment drafts. What I will not do is write your drafts for you, provide written corrections to your drafts, or give explicit step-by-step instructions about the exact content of your assessment response.
