I am an experienced tutor with a wide range of teaching experience over the last fifteen years, including in the following subjects: English Literature, English Language, English as a Second Language, IELTS, Creative Writing, GCSE, A Level, PSHE and Drama. I completed my PGCE with QTS in Secondary English in 2020, working across two schools in Cornwall and I have a Master's in Creative Writing from Kingston University and a BA(Hons) in English Literature with Creative writing. I also have a TESOL qualification certified by Trinity College, which is one of the highest acclaimed foreign language qualifications. I am British but I grew up in Hong Kong and Thailand so I really enjoy working with students from different backgrounds.

I have just emigrated to the northern beaches in Sydney from England, having last worked here as an EAL teacher from 2016-2019, and I am currently available for tutoring at any time during the weekdays. In the UK I taught for five years at a prestigious international private school where I was responsible for seeing multiple GCSE and A Level Groups through successful examination results. For the last fifteen years I have also worked consistently as a private tutor to help students from primary, secondary and sixth form (years 12/13) in English. I have continued using my EAL expertise to teach students from different language backgrounds, as well as supporting students with dyslexia and ADHD.

One of my main aims when teaching English is to try and foster a love for reading in my students, so that they can approach language and writing with enthusiasm and confidence. I also try to encourage creativity at every opportunity and will often include exercises for students to produce their own pieces of creative writing, so they can implement the techniques and language they have read in books. This can be an incredible confidence boost for children and adults alike to see that they can produce their own creative and engaging pieces of work.

Experience

I have been a private tutor for about fifteen years, after completing my Trinity TESOL qualification at just eighteen years old. Since then I have tutored students from four years old all the the way through to adult learners, teaching reading, writing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, literature and language to both native and second language speakers. Along the way I completed my BA and MA and taught in Thailand and Australia, before completing my PGCE in Secondary English (11-18 year olds) in the UK, gaining valuable experience in exam preparation for UK GCSEs and A Levels, with proven results. For EAL learners I have experience in IELTS and PTE preparation (I have also sat these exams successfully myself for my Australian visa, so I have an in depth understanding of what is required), as well as GCSE EAL exams. I also have experience tutoring students with dyslexia and ADHD and always personalise my lessons to best support the individual student's strengths and targets. Recently I worked in a school where I taught small classes of mixed abilities from ages 7 to 14, so I am as comfortable adapting to younger ages as I am older.
