Melbourne tutor in Spanish

I'm a Mexican writer living in Melbourne, and I teach the Spanish people actually speak.

Before moving here, I spent years writing professionally in Spanish, publishing over 200 articles for Rolling Stone Mexico and interviewing musicians for a living. That background means I can explain why something sounds right, not just tell you that it does. Grammar, tone, the difference between formal and casual, the phrases that make you sound like a person instead of a phrasebook.

I also learned English as an adult and now work in it every day, so I know exactly what the hard parts feel like: freezing mid-sentence, understanding everything but being unable to answer, being terrified of sounding like a dufus. I'm not going to rush you or correct every small thing while you're still finding your words.

I've tutored before, mostly children who'd just arrived in Mexico and needed enough Spanish to survive school and make friends. Now I work with adults too, whether you're travelling to Latin America, learning for family, or just want to finally get past the plateau.

Mexican Spanish, taught by someone who wrote it for a living.

Experience

I've been tutoring Spanish since my high school and university years, when I worked with students as a side job alongside my studies.

Most of my experience was with children who had recently moved to Mexico from abroad, helping them build enough Spanish to feel confident at school and in daily life. That meant starting from the basics and moving at their pace, focusing on the practical language they actually needed to make friends, follow lessons and settle in. I also tutored primary school children who were native speakers, supporting them with reading, writing, grammar and homework.

Spanish is my first language. I'm Mexican, I studied Communications at Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City, and I've worked professionally as a writer, publishing over 200 articles for Rolling Stone Mexico. So alongside conversational fluency, I can help with grammar, structure and the kind of detail that makes writing clear.

I now live in Melbourne, which means I understand what it's like to learn and work in a second language, including the awkward early stages. I'm patient, I don't mind repeating things, and I adapt to whatever pace works for the student.
